New Wires - Problem Solved!!

So I had previously taken my rig to a local shop that had a Free CEL diagnostic. I'm not trying to judge, but this was on a saturday and the guy who helped me didn't seem too experienced there. He was the only one there at the time and came back saying it was the Knock Sensor (which I understand could be the wire, etc, etc).

Anyway, the light has been on for a while. Yesterday I swapped out new plugs and wires. The plugs were only about a year old, but I figured I would put new ones in since I had extras. The wires had been on there quite some time, at least 10 years.

Anyway, I go to start my car for the first time today and the CEL is no longer on. Engine performance seems much better, not sluggish anymore and no loss of power. Could this have been the problem all along, the wires? I drove the car about 3 miles to work, getting up to about 3k RPM at one point gunning it, up to about 50 mph. It hasnt driven like this in quite some time. The CEL used to come on after it hit about 1,500 RPM shortly after accellerating. It still hasn't come on. Any thoughts??

One other note...I did use 89 octane gas this week, I usually use regular.

Nice, congrats. I find these trucks really respond well to a good tune-up(plugs, cap, rotor, wires, fuel filter, etc...). You might check your fuel injector o-rings, I found they really made a huge difference on our old 1990 3.0(3VZE).
regards

89 Octane won't likely make a difference.

The CEL may have been from a misfire that was throwing off the knock sensor.

Yeah, i figured 89 octane vs. the 87 i usually use wouldn't make a difference but was worth noting at this point. I swear, if this is what the difference was then thank goodness. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed it stays. But every other time i've driven my car, at one point or another the CEL will come on...usually early on. It didn't come on once in the 15 minute drive, going up steep inclines, various speeds and gears.

UPDATE: Took the whip for a spin on my lunch break, another spirited drive. Still nothing...can't believe it.

UPDATE: All quiet on the Dashboard Front....still no CEL.
$50 for good wires + 1 hour under the hood before work
-----VERSUS-----
~$600 + 8 hours under the hood replacing something that wasn't the problem to begin with.
