It seems that 5th gen owners tend to get very defensive when someone complains about a lack of available features or options.It has been discussed quite a bit on this forum and it's no secret that Toyota decontented the 5th gen 4Runner, so why do people get upset when someone is venting his frustrations? Instead of bashing the guy, just offer some advice on how he can improve his particular issue.

Have to admit, I've tried to find the "click" on the dash dimmer switch to turn on all of the interior lights. I don't recall owning a vehicle since my first in 1983 that did not have a driver controll for the interior lights.
I wasn't sure if there was a way to control the lights until this post confirmed it. And I've RTFM, but nowhere do I recall it saying "there is no switch to activate all interior lights."
Definately an idiosyncrasy of this Toyota, but not a big deal. I do keep a couple of LED flashlight on board anyhow.
I like the Honda method of controlling the interior lights. "All ON/DOOR/ALL OFF." The all off is nice when the kids leave their rear lights on.

Nice one. Read the thread internet warrior. Its about the lack of lighting for the third row and inability for the driver to see back there at night to tend to children.

Your right. And half these car sensitive girls went out to their vehicle looking for the dome light switch and realized too that it wasnt there. They also didnt see this in the test drive.
Yes. I posted this on a public forum so the next person that wants to buy a family car with 3 rows that can get them out camping and hunting must do so with a flashlight or a modification to light up the whole back end of the car.

Great idea! Toyota should put that on their brochure so that people who are going to spend 35k on a car can see just how easy it is to tend to your children in the 3rd row.
Bash all you want ladies. But ask yourself the honest question.....did you know there wouldnt be driver controlled interior light control for the whole vehicle when you test drove it? No. You didnt. And if you use this car for more than running errands at the mall, it is very annoying especially when camping and enjoying the outdoors.

I completely agree- a simple rule of thumb- don't say anything to anyone online that you would not say to them in person.
You know, I wouldn't have been against a nice civil discussion about these topics, but JJMAC came here acting like a 12 year old with some of his rude comments. I would have hoped that someone in a position to afford a 40k automobile would have grown out of it by now.

You gotta admit no light over the 3rd row/cargo area is odd. This thread is fun. Thanks to JJMAC for livening up the board. I just left my map lights on for the last 2 hrs after trying to figure out if party mode was on or off.

Sounds like you are the one that doesn't see the vehicle for what it is intended, a highly capable off-road truck. You're complaining about a stupid dome light for your kids in the third row. I think you're the grocery getter.

Consider: While the center dome light does have a switch on it, I'd have to agree that no dome over a 3rd row-equipped vehicle is a little on the cheap-azzed side.
Consider: I cannot remember the last vehicle I owned (and some were t u r d s) that did not have a dash switch of some kind to turn on the dome light(s).
Consider: How many of us were b i t c h i n g mightily about the lack of a rear dome that came on when the tailgate opened, or the antenna pinged the garage door, or the horn was wimpy, or ..... or ...... or ......
