I actually think it's an American vs Japanese car thing. My jeep bad the switch, but no Subaru or Honda I've driven has had one. Usually in those you have to reach up to the door/off/on switch on the light it self.

Also the 4r has what I'd consider "an available third row seating". Which means they just shoe horned a third row onto a vehicle that typically doenst have one just to sell more cars. You can yell by how small it is back there that it was not a design consideration and really an afterthought.

Really those are the things you need to consider when buying a vehicle, nothing is going to fit everything you do perfectly. @OP, you might have been better off with a trail blazer or Acadia or some sort of cross over suv if you are looking for more convenience features.

When I roll the instrument panel dimmer switch all the way up until it clicks, it forces the Nav unit into Daylight mode when the headlights are on. On my '85 pick-up, doing that turned on the interior light. Obviously, Toyota made a choice to dedicate that switch function to the Nav unit. I think it make sense.

No nav...no click. It just dims.

I'd give up the ECO dash light for a dome light switch on the dash.

Does anyone not disable the ECO light or is it just an SR5 thing?

To the OP: I've had my T4R camping several times. It got me everywhere my buddy's CJ7 could get (while actually being able to carry some gear). That leads me to this: where do you keep your gear with the 3rd row seat up?

I just got back from an overnight camping trip and with just my gear, I had a majority of the cargo area filled. Dropped down under 20ºF last night, had 18" of snow on the ground. I needed every bit of my gear for the 7 miles of round trip hiking.

For typical car camping, I'm loaded up with coolers, chairs, etc. The 3rd row in the 4Runner is basically only good if you need to drag a kid's friend along somewhere as it eats up all the rear space.

BTW, my wife's $24k MINI Cooper S didn't come with freaking cruise control. We didn't get the multifunction steering wheel option and CC was bundled with it. You miss features when you are looking at cars sometimes. At least you are missing a feature that really doesn't make much of a difference and if it bothers you that much, you can add it. Adding the steering wheel to the MINI is a $1000 ordeal so we buck up and live with it.

Your right. And half these car sensitive girls went out to their vehicle looking for the dome light switch and realized too that it wasnt there. They also didnt see this in the test drive.

Yes. I posted this on a public forum so the next person that wants to buy a family car with 3 rows that can get them out camping and hunting must do so with a flashlight or a modification to light up the whole back end of the car.

This is my 5th 4runner, and they all have the same light control systems. My Camry was the same way, it also didn't have an "interior light control" switch. Toyota has always put them "on the light' itself. Granted, I don't have 3 rows, but the light operation in this 4runner is identical to every 4runner i've owned.

And as others posted, this is not just a Toyota thing. In addition to the other car companies which do not have a dash mount dome switch, my Volkswagen doesn't have one either.

Well I am a parent and I considered a 3rd row for the kids. It's a complete after-thought on Toyota's part. You realize this 2 seconds after you investigate it. Get a Sienna is you need something for 6+ passengers.

That's true - and it may get a little crazy at times. But it's a natural reaction when someone spends a lot of money on and a lot of time with his truck.

BS. He complained about stuff he should have noticed before he bought it, acting like minor things were deal breakers. But rather than accept that he screwed up, he comes here and whines and then slides further into whiny b*tch mode by blaming all *his* failures on his wife.

Yeah, lots of people whine about the horn, but my wife and I discovered that on the test drive and I made a mental note to add that to the list of mods. Did I come here and whine about it? No, I mentioned it on the survey from Toyota instead. Because of that and thousands of others like me, they appear to have switched out the horns for 2011. Here on T4R.Org, I added to an existing thread about replacing the horn.

He complained about things (light controls, lack of cargo light, radio, nose dive, air conditioning) that you typically test on a car before you buy it, if for no other reason than to determine if you can live with them. Given the emphasis he has placed on the need for these items, I find it hard to believe that he just "assumed" anything. I think his story just doesn't add up, leading me to believe that he's a troll. Consider that he has supposedly had the truck since October, the lack of lighting can't possibly be a surprise nor can this be the first time he's driven it at night. To date, his threads have been about how he scratched it up, dented the diff cover on a rock, and a request for storage solutions, where in he complained about the lack of storage in a truck with a third row.

The notion that he spent a single moment looking at this truck before buying it strains credulity. I don't mind people complaining about things that broke, or were removed from previous generations, or their reasons for NOT buying a 4Runner. I do mind people that increase the signal-to-noise ratio because they can't accept responsibility for their own fvck-ups. They are the same people who step on the gas peddle instead of the brake and blame Toyota for "uncontrolled acceleration".

No. Sh8t sherlock. That is why I am *****ing. Its crap. and I should have seen these things before I bought it. I made the dumb ass assumption that a 40k car would have basic safety/comfort items.

40k? They took you to the woodshed. I walked out the door with every option (minus backup cam) on the base SR5 w/ part-time 4X4 for $32k. You got got son. If you don't like it, get rid of it. Otherwise, pull up your skirt and do some modifications like everyone else here. Get some Old Man Emu springs to lose the nosedive, wire in a extra overhead light, and swap out the sound system. Very simple. I got the USB system and it is loud as sh*t with a ton of base.

You assumed without researching or observing during your test drive.

Very true. I like to test drive a new car in the winter so I can drive it after dark to see how good/bad the headlights perform. The dealers are closed by the time it gets dark the rest of the year.
