To SeattleMike; we clearly see things differently. I can't understand how worked up people get over this. I don't even think he "F'ed up" by buying the truck...I bet he is still glad he owns it. But he's unhappy about some missing, seemingly standard features on a lot of domestics.
I'm using his reasoning, not my own, in saying that he screwed up. He is the one who came to a public board and started a thread using language that indicated he hates Toyota for omitting something. He's stated that he is not happy with his wife's truck.
I respect your opinion, (you are a great contributer to the board) but I just don't see how this situation can be dealt with in such absolutes/inferences and fueled with so much personal emotion. The passive-aggressive posts are just as disrespectful in my eyes, but I can really never find a reason to do so, no matter how much it may be warranted.
Again, he came here to vent, an open forum. When posting on an open forum you have to accept that people are going to disagree and people are going to react in way you may not like... just like in the real world. I didn't go hang out in front of his house, badgering him until he voiced his complaints. He came here, blaming Toyota, for his own oversight. He wasn't asking for advice, he was ranting as if he were entitled to something. I pointed out that he failed to do his homework, and then things went south on his part. Some other people have offered sympathy, some empathy, and some like me have refused to let him blame others for what was his responsibility. Had he simply asked for advice on adding a light or locating the switch, he would have gotten more than a few replies offing advice, links, pics, or even help from people nearby.
I think this guy still deserves to own a T4R and I do believe he researched his purchase. Maybe not to the point of driver controlled dome lights, but what percentage of us actually did. I highly suspect the vast majority of people noticed this after their purchase and wishes we had it. I didn't realize this and it doesn't mean we all F'd up either, it was a slight oversight. I don't think it carries any more weight than that.
From his posts, it appears his wife picked out this truck for herself and he's stuck with her choice. It's not about "deserve". No one has said he doesn't deserve a 4Runner. And the difference between you two is the total lack of pointing fingers and whining on your part. While you may not think it carries any weight, this guy was mad enough to post a thread about it. And that made me mad enough to respond.
So what are our options to remedy this? I definitely don't have an electrical background other than simple wire splicing. Maybe some of those goofy "stick on" lights that the kids can push themselves? But, if I was a kid back there, my Dads 4Runner would look like a disco going down the street =)
Wire another dome light to the dome light over the middle row so the same switch operates both lights, preventing the "disco" problem. Then learn to find the switch in the dark while driving
