Thanks Kingpin, I couldn't agree more, I guess the truth is sometimes painful for some. We did drive it before we bought it against a Grand Cherokee and could tell the Toyota was lacking a bit, but we had loved our 2007 and it was bulletproof, so we bought the 2013, no remorse as I said earlier, I will start working on it to make it a bit more unique and just mash the gas and not haul to much in it.

Not complaining but looking for assistance from fellow 4runner lovers.. Just as my ISF was really pissed after dropping 65k on it and it had a dead peddle when trying to make it downshift at 90+ mph but loved the style and after checking into the ISF forums I was steered to a Blitz throttle modifier loved it since. Just as how members speak there mind about the nose dive you steer them to suspension upgrades (icon,daystar,overland,toytec) are we fools to buy a new truck and try to upgrade/make it better since TOYOTA has engineers to do all that?? We all bought the 4runner because we love the style, feel, capabilties and the 4runner badge.
And yes sprintbooster is out for the 5th gen mini mania is where I bought mines but fitment is off and will take some finessing.

Post up when they release one that is plug and play. I'm not into "finessing', but would love to have selectable throttle mapping.
It is plug and play but it sits very close to the heater core lines near the gas pedal. You will have to wrap the heater core lines in a heat wrap so wires won't melt. It actually butts up on the heater core lines lol. It's helps with my light footed driving style and helps a bit with the downshifting as well.

If the wires melt while merging onto I35 in downtown Minneapolis with my boat in tow, then it is not plug and play.
Hahhaahaha your right, if you see a silver 4runner towing a utilty trailer on I95 in philly stay far away from me. Lmao

I agree nothing is perfect and I rarely see 100% praise even on manufacturer/product specific forums.
I'm not sure where people came to expect that or are bothered by it.
Some of the 4th or other gen crowd have rubbed this forum raw and put people in attack mode lol.
There's a difference between owners discussing things they don't like and being a hater or purposely trying to bait fans of something.

The sensitivity level on this forum is way, way too high. Some here are quick to call others "haters" over the slightest criticisms. Most of the perceived "haters" are 5th gen owners like the rest of you who are simply less than 100% satisfied with something.

Most are not engineers who did their homework in scrupulous detail before buying. They see it/love it/buy it - and thats why most dealership owners live in big houses and thrive on the emotional buy.
You get all kinds here. Gotta have a thicker skin.

Haha, you think you don't have any power? I have a '01 SR5 with the 180hp V6 and 32 inch BFG truck tires. Loaded it up with 4 people and all their ski gear and it still merges on the highway fine.

I had an '03 Tacoma Doublecab with the 3.4 V6 and thought it was fine actually!
No drive by wire programming shenanigans messing with your head, lol.
It's not the engine not producing enough power it's the shift points toyota engineers put in to make the 4runner get better MPG kinda like detuning. Dodge does this with MDS system changes cyclinder movements from 8cyl to 4cyl on there 5.7l hemi and with a diablo sport or super chips programmer you can disable this system. As well as the new Grand Cherokee hemi 5.7. It's not how much power an engine can produce its how the drivetrain delivers it to the ground and the butt dyno on a off road truck.
What ticks me is people that complain about power then about gas mileage on a mid/full size truck, buy a Prius and let us big boys play with our toys. When you hungry you eat do you complain that your hungry NO so when your truck needs to eat full him up with some gas.

There is obviously a problem or these threads would not keep coming up about lack of power. I am ready to replace my 03 V8 but the current 4runner engine is not acceptable to me. I want to stick with a 4runner but keep hoping a new engine will arrive soon.

I don't feel he's becoming defensive at all, in fact I think he's being gracious pointing out the obvious, that someone apparently overlooked before buying a 40 grand vehicle.
It has a 6 cylinder, common knowledge, right?...plenty of people use it, tow with it, commute with it, and off road with it. For the use it was designed for, it has plenty of power. 98% percent of the folks here that bought it, love it, and live with the power band it comes with, and it may even cause an adaptation in their driving style, but nonetheless, enjoy it.
What we really need is a separate Crying, Bit ching, Whining Thread so those that really need to vent have a place to hang together..
