You could rinse the car first but it's not needed. The solution is very very slick. After 2+ years of using this my car has minimal swirl marks. I'd be willing to bet the majority of those were caused by the handful of machine washes I've gotten while in a pinch. I'll probably polish it this summer.

It won't remove road tar. You'll need a tar remover or clay bar. Clay bar is great (when use properly) for removing contaminants from paint that regular washing never will. If you run your bare hand across a clean car and feel ANY grit, you need to clay. It should literally feel like glass.
Also important to know is that clay will remove your protective wax or sealant so you'll need to folloW it with Polishing and sealing. It is time consuming to say the least.

Everyone -
First, I will never recommend a product, procedure or service to anyone that I have not personally tried or used and that performs to my satisifaction. Needless to say, I do not impress easily. With that said, I am impressed with this product. I used it again last night after driving 550 miles in the rain on Sunday and Monday. What can I say - it works. After using it last night I used Turtlewax Ice Detailer and the 4Runner looks great. Does it look as good as a show car? No, but it looks great from a few feet away and even though I have black, there are no more scratches than it had when I used old hose and bucket method. If anything, it has less.
If my truck has caked on mud, sand or heavy salt then I just use a hose first to get the major stuff off before using this product. For normal day to day road grime, dust and pollen I do not hose first I just use the No Rinse. For tar, you use a solvent like bug and tar remover. I really have not tried bugs yet but I'm sure my "soak" method will work. This method is simply getting a wet rag and saturating the front bumper, which works by "soaking and softening" the bug guts so they come off easy. Probably the best part of this process is having no water spots as you immediately dry the panel you just washed. That and using a cool bucket with two seperate compartments!

Yes, i got the big red bucket with two compartments from homedepot before I started yesterday.
Bugs seemed to be no trouble for the 'no rinse', I did pre-rinse to get off some dirt in the fender wells and majority of the pollen, but I did the front end last and with all that time to soak, they came right off with the first swipe of my micro fiber mitt.

also, i looked at buying buckets from amazon when i was buying the no rinse stuff, but, the buckets were $5-10 plus $5 shipping..screw that.
I bought 2 five gallon buckets from ace hardware for about 3 bucks a piece...good luck

i washed my truck last night using the no rinse method. It's awesome. My truck was really dirty, and it came out great. I'm going to do it again this weekend, and i think it will be even better.

OK I just used this today on mine and I am amazed how it works, I did mine slightly different, I used one rag the wash and then one to dry, finish is great and my vehicle looks super shiny. Thanks 1 engineer for the good write up, I would recommend this to anyone, the only downside is now the wife is *****ing that I should do her Lexus every week now too...

I saw this thread and added some to my cart with my last Amazon order... I can't believe how good this stuff works. I washed the entire exterior (no swirls, light scratches, or spots), all windows (no streaking), door jambs, wheels, the chrome trim, and the engine bay. It still took about as long as a decent exterior wash, but I did it in my garage without a hose. Thanks for the info in this thread - great product!

Have been using it per recommendations of this forum. Great product, and as you say, HUGE time saver. Love it!
Will say, after trips up through the passes, I do a quick (high-pressure) rinse at the local "wash-it-your-damn-self" place; as you can see from pic, with so much grime, I just can't get myself to take the direct to wash plunge. However, for regular to medium dirty-ness, works great.
