I have installed aftermarket seat heaters in three vehicles and it's really straight forward. Once you take your time through the first panel, the rest goes fast. Hog clips are a PITA but with the actual tool, it's a breeze. I'm contemplating installing them into the rear seats of my 4Runner...

I've done it myself on other cars as well. I don't find the hog rings that bad to do myself. Having the right tool is the key. It'll probably take longer getting the seat out and running the wiring than removing the covers and installing the pads.

The rear seat idea has interested me as well. I plan on following gshadow325's write-up on it if I ever decide to do it. At the moment I have three kid's seats in the back, so at the moment the time and money spent will be a moot point.

Thank you for this write-up and share. I purchased the referenced relay from Amazon (Denso 567-0003) and heated seat pads. I was able to confirm on my MY07 last night that the green wire at IC4 is the same on the face-lifted 4Runner by tapping it and running a volt meter while pulling the fuse in and out.

I do have a question on going this route, and I'm not sure if [MENTION=66389]BlackWorksInc[/MENTION] can help, but I'd like to see if I could actually pin a wire to insert into the blank A6 position and continue the run along with the factory harness. Does anyone know what kind of pin (Toyota P/N) this would require for this connector?

Where's that connector located again?

In the first post of this thread, the OP has a picture of the harness connection behind the driver's side kickpanel. He labels it as IC4 (I've always referred to them as junction blocks), with a pin location of A6. The harness connection coming from the engine bay fuse block has a green wire the goes to A6, and the receiving connector has a blank spot on the corresponding side. I've look through my pdf copy of the FSM and can't find any wiring documentation to help support my research of: is this a male or female pin; and what Toyota pin type used in this harness position would work.

I have cloth seats and have no plans to upgrade to leather, I actually prefer them (at least in this truck) to leather. It's not silly to upgrade them to a heated seat. I've seen other OEM's (Subaru quickly comes to mind) that do heated cloth seats. The only thing I may do after 10 years / 150K miles is replace the seat bottom cloth as it's just starting to become frayed in the bolster area.

There's 4 different types of female pins that go into connector IC4 of which there's like 3 part numbers for each pin (different lengths of wire attached and if they are gold-plated or not) as you buy a terminal repair wire (pre-crimped terminal on a length of wire 160mm or 500mm log). So I'd have to see the pin to know roughly what part number it'd probably be?

So it's still a work in progress. I ordered a new seat cushion cover that ended up being wrong, but I figured I'd start working on the wiring. I copped out and removed the pin from the harness which wasn't hard to do (have a pin removal tool). I then repinned it for a weatherpack connection. At least this way if servicing is ever required this will not be a problem to disconnect. Mocked up the heated seat kit wiring and pads and everything worked as it should.

I'm currently in the process of installing my seat heaters and I'm very glad I was led to this thread!!

On a related note, I installed an amp/sub into my 4Runner the standard way of wiring directly to the battery and having my head unit turn it on via a remote wire. I noticed that fuse 28 in the owners manual is marked as RADIO NO.2 20A: Audio System.

If I were to take a guess, I would say that it would be intended for the JBL amp. I have a 2008 4Runner Sport Edition and don't have the factory JBL system.

Does anyone know where this fuse actually ends up? And if it's not hooked up to anything, where it might terminate so I could hook my amp up to it? I think it would be perfect since my amp is a 250 watt rms amp which would mean that it would be almost perfect for the 20A fuse. (I know 12x20=240 not 250, but I would think it should be close enough to work)

I have a feeling radio no.2 is in the same boat as the seat heater fuse. Correctly wired up, but nowhere to go. Any info is welcome!!!

I’m in the same position as BendRunner. I’m trying to keep the fog light mod.

What exactly does the ign relay do? For my 08 sport edition it is blank and not used.

I don’t have the fsm with me and trying to understand the need for the relay.

If not equipped with the OEM seat heaters, the IG relay slot is empty. To use the factory wiring for the aftermarket heaters, fill in the blank relay spot and make sure the seat heater fuse is in place.

Use the IG Relay for the seat heaters and refer to this to redo your fog lamps.

I’m responding to the two posts above. I’ve installed a relay into the IGN slot. This allows the 25A seat heater fuse to work.

Now, the independent fog light mod uses one of the IGN relay slots to get the ignition power.

Here’s the problem: you can’t do the fog light mod with the IGN relay a lot taken so I’m looking for another source for ignition for the fog light mod.

Any ideas before I tap into stock wiring?

Switching relays and using the existing seat heater fuse and green wire in the IC4 was perfect! I ordered 2 of the 02016 relays off EBAY for about 14 for the pair shipped! I went with the Clazzio heaters. I’ll probably change the fuse to 15A since it came with 7.5A for each and wires are pretty small.

Just trying to follow this thread...my seat heaters came with 4cables - 2 Red cables (one with inline fuse and the other is a smaller gauge wire), 1 black(ground) and one yellow. I see that you have the bigger gauge wire going to the green cable. What do i need to do with the yellow and the other red cable? my cables arent labeled as to what they are.

One wire goes to the "ignition" switch, per se' (power the Relay)

The other wire provides power to light the switch...

{There's another thread that addresses those other wires, and the required pins to do it like the factory... }

Hey did you ever find that other thread? I installed my kit with the same wiring system as yours and am having trouble now as they keep turning off seconds after turning them on. I had someone helping me and we did it in a super ghetto way I think wiring the second red and yellow into the other red and black respectively then into an empty fuse that isn’t active without the key in ignition. Curious if you could share any info for me before I get in there to redo it?

Im also looking for any info on the 6 wires from the factory OEM switches.. was going to try and integrate these. Thank you!
