North American diesels? Is Toyota listening here?

Ok well my sister JEtta before the 1.8t was the 2.slo (2.0) had no options manual everything and she got about 29mpg compared to my Rocketchipped Tdi 140bhp pulling 49mpg maybe thats not in the 90% but it is still above 70%.

Thats not the vehicles were arguing about, 99.5 Jetta Tdi with 50mpg, 00 jetta 2.0l 30mpg..... SO thats about 66% the 70% was off the top of my head, and i used the 1.8t because i was comparing the 2 vehicles with turbo's.

Second, while we now have the required ultra-low sulfur diesel fuel, our diesel fuel still has too low (and too inconsistent) cetane ratings.

Third, EPA and CARB have pushed ridiculously stringent emissions ratings. Euro diesels won't meet these emissions ratings without additional emissions equipment, and the lower cetane ratings requires changes as well. The equipment and tuning required to meet these emissions ratings reduces fuel economy.

THats what i have been saying they have really strict emmisions because they dont want them here, and like you said the ones that pass emissions have worse mileage so they get more money because of your worse gas mileage.

Supposedly the diesel 335d has too much torque - multiple auto magazines, both print and electronic, agree. A set of rear tires gone in like 10k mi I hear.

I don't know what you're talking about. I haven't read this once in any of the press I've seen for the car. Also, keep in mind that the ultra high performance tires on cars like the 335i and 335d are only rated to last about 15,000 miles.

Again, a seemingly interesting thread gets some a$$hole arguing about how and why the OP is wrong. All too common here. Here's a thought: M1911, you post a lot of info up to argue a point. If you want to get technical, then post the technical sources or shut up. While I don't consider empirical observations entirely credible, they do have more credibility than randomly spewed "facts".

I'd love to have a diesel in the 4Runner. Toyota was working on a diesel for the Tundra, but they canceled that program. Given that they canceled that, I doubt they will consider a US diesel 4Runner in the near future. See:

Toyota America president Jim Lentz told Automotive News that his company no longer plans to challenge for the top spot in the segment. With the market shrinking fast, Toyota's share has been dropping even faster. Tundra sales were down 60.7 percent in September compared to only a 3.9 percent drop at Chevrolet. Ford, which is preparing to launch the F-150 in the coming weeks saw sales of the old model drop 41.6 percent while Dodge Ram sales were 30.6 percent off. Toyota has already decided to consolidate full size truck production from two factories to one and Lentz also confirmed reports that the diesel engine for the Tundra that was announced last January has been shelved. With volumes down so much, adding another engine to the mix at this point doesn't make sense for Toyota.

The goal of this petition is to request the importation or the release of diesel versions of all Toyota models available in North America. The World outside of North America and particularly European nations have had the luxury year after year to purchase a diesel engine in any Toyota model from the Yaris Diesel to the Land Cruiser Diesel (Not available in North America, and it should be). North America is fed inferior gas engines. Regulations have now put ultra low sulphur diesel at all gas stations, which is a much cleaner form of diesel. Diesel is a more efficient fuel and we as North Americans are demanding the fast tracking of diesel engines to the North American market by Toyota. We want it here now. We encourage all the Toyota owners , future owners and fans to fill this petition.
