Swaybar is located lower (and a larger diameter) on the KDSS TE's versus the SR5, TRD Pro and LE models not to mention the TE w/o KDSS. Bottom line: Most 4Runners have more ground clearance than KDSS equipped ones by about an inch.
But, but, what about my internet rage?

Ha, yes. Though you could look at it as "I put larger tires on my car so that when I air down I don't lose any of my stock clearance"

Following your link, I tried the 'build your own model' walkthru. With KDSS selected, the downloadable sheet still shows ground clearance as 9.6."
You might be the leading plaintiff on a class action lawsuit!!!!!!

Seriously though, if a rock is 9.5" tall, that extra inch is pretty damned important. It's the equivalent of 33 vs 35" tires. I've spent a lot of $ jumping from 35 to 39" tires for an extra 2" of ground clearance. I think it's reasonable to expect it to be close to accurate.

KDSS should not be causing a lower ground clearance. That just provides stiffer anti-sway bars and a hydraulic connection to them. It doesn't change the ride height or suspension.
The specs in the brochure indicate that the ground clearance for a 4x2 is 9" instead of 9.6". But the Trail Edition doesn't come in 2 wheel drive.

Okay, I just saw there was more than one page in this thread. This lower skid plate with the KDSS is news to me. I hope my new rig with the KDSS will still clear the boulders in my driveway. :bluejump:

In my admittedly limited off roading i have noticed that I try to roll over any rock 6" or bigger with my TIRES. This way I am doing my level best not to test the ground clearance under the delicate bits. I figured this would be more productive than either myself or someone else walking 10' in front of the vehicle measuring rocks with a tape measure....... :hiding:
Of course I have also noticed that when I bottom something out it is normally the gas tank skid, which is MORE than 9.6" off the ground. A lot of what touches bottom has to do with the line you choose and the angles you follow over obstacles.

I don't understand what the big deal is. Even 8" will be fine if you are running dirt roads occasionally. I mean, my older brother did the Valley of the Gods road in a Prius. If you are running technical trails, well then, you'd be lifted (not necessarily to gain more ground clearance, but to accommodate bigger tires). And as [MENTION=105481]3wbdriver[/MENTION] said, it's a lot more about the driver's expertise at that point.
For people like [MENTION=89562]bimrunner[/MENTION] and [MENTION=3743]Jeremy[/MENTION]556 that advertised clearance might make an actual difference, but for the other 99% of us, that will never matter.
