Official 3rd gen 4Runners on 35's Pic Thread

Hey Everyone, finally pulled the trigger and have mine ordered!!!
Kanati Mud Hogs, in 315-75/16, They're a little known tire, but I've found pretty good reviews on them (professional reviews, and found a few people on-line who I spoke to) who spoke well of them. For a set of 5, for me, they're about $600 cheaper then any other tire I could find.

Mud Hog - Kanati Tires

I was really torn between a MT tire and an aggressive AT tire this time. But again cost won over. Next time around, I'm hoping to move up to 17"s so if these last just 2, 2 1/2 years I'm more then happy.

So now here's my question (now that it's buried in this thread and no one reads this far)....

Wheel spacers in the rear. Currently I'm running 1 1/4" in the rear, with an 8" wheel with 4" BS. I remember seeing people running spacers on the rear with 35s, and some don't. What's the magic numbers with my current wheel specs and my new 315-75 tires to get the best "stuff"? Is it more trial and error, or can someone flat out tell me to leave them on or to take them off at the time of installation of the new tires?

I'll keep looking through this thread, but so far I haven't seem to come across that info.

Many Thanks!

Something most people can't say running 35s is this

I DON'T rub full flex+ full steer with 35's with ZERO body mods:D

I have ripped off my sway bar backets ~10 times and broken my front cvs roughly the same number of times until I did ~2 inch diff drop

Sure looks like a body lift.

You should be good running 315/75/16 on your 16x8 4" BS wheels without the spacers. You'll rub your frame but should be able to stuff your tires. 16x8 4" BS should be a good compromise between frame rub/body rub & tire stuffing.

I say this because when I had my 315/75/16 on factory 16x7 4.5" BS with .75" spacers it was good balance of being able to stuff my tire, minimal pinch weld rub & minimal body rub. The cons were I rubbed my frame which made turning in tight quarters tough. The track width was also narrow for that size tire with my suspension & body lift set up. A couple weeks ago I purchased SCS F5's 16x8 3.5" BS & swapped over my 315s BFGs. I now clear the frame at full lock but was hitting the pinch weld during most daily driving conditions & would hit the rear lower tab of the front fender with light off roading (the lower metal tab that the fender stay grommet plugs into). Since mounting my new wheels I have folded my pinch weld over using Unner's write up, bent back the rear lower metal tab on the front fender & trimmed the fender liner. I haven't had to cut any metal away yet. So far I don't rub on any metal with daily driving but clearly didn't trim enough of the plastic fender liner because I slightly rub on it.

It was a compromise to give up the body & pinch weld clearance I was getting on my old set up for a wider track width but I'm glad I did it because now that my track width is 1.25" wider than my old set up (including 1" wider wheel) my 4runner feels much more stabile. Part of the reason I switched to my new wheel spec set up was SS recommendation. A while back he told me with the body lift, suspension lift & 35" tires I was running, 16x8 3.5 BS would be highly recommended in order to match track width to lift height for proper handling. I did it my way for a few years but glad I finally went with his recommendation. My old set up worked fine but my new set up is better (minus the extra work for fitment).

Either that or he's not driving it hard enough :jump: After tubbing I had to adjust my foot position on my clutch otherwise my foot hits my new firewall. Still have the tire kissing the bottom of the battery. Washer tank is long gone, charcoal canister has a few bumpy roads left but not many haha. Let's not even talk about the rear... Still rub the top of the wheel well :mad2:

You're right, that was intended to be no body trimming.. put it in incorrectly though. Class clown of the day seems to be me!

No biggie....just thought it *looked* like a body lift. After an accident at work, my eyes are pretty screwed up so I wasn't sure if it was just my poor vision or not. Thanks for the clarification. :)

Guess who got a phone call last night saying his tires were out of the shipping conex and waiting for him????

Coming off the Slope today. Hope to drive back to Anchorage tomorrow to put them on.
