I will be doing a full write up on the firewall tub I did. These tires clear at full compression, lock to lock steering (besides some very slight frame rub at full lock). I also cut the fenders 1.25". It was a TON of work but I'm very happy with the end result.

Another savage truck out of Oregon!!!!!

How to limit steering angle?

How do I limit steering travel?

I too want to do this as I just mounted up 315/75R16s (see pic) and have done some trimming and clearanced the inner fenders but want to take some
Steering travel out?

Are the stops on the a-Arms or was it a mod to
The steering rack itself?

Good info and you finally did it! It's about time you got your 35's! jk. Jokes aside your 35s are a look on your 4runner. Will look out for your firewall tub write up. I'm always interested in people's individual approach to fitting larger tires. Once I figure out my slider situation I need to do a final round of making some extra room & have considered tubbing when I get comfortable with welding.

Did you ever do this write up?

^ x2 on the write up, I'm curious on how you did this.

I don't think he's done the write up yet. Wouldn't be a bad idea to compile everyone's take on tubbing/trimming to fit 35's in a single thread. Here is what I did to fit 35's with no BL and no rubbing. I'm sure he did something very similar. http://www.toyota-4runner.org/3rd-g...2000-limited-build-thread-15.html#post2697359

Write up is here, he posted it directly to his blog a couple of weeks ago.

Here’s mine, just got them on!

Old Man Emu 3” lift
882/n91s Front and 890/n86 Rear

35x12.5x17 Goodyear Wrangler MT/R Kevlar
17x9 4.25” backspace Pro Comp Series 97

No body lift (2inch toytect going on very soon)
No spacers

Rubs frame at full lock
Had to trim fenders behind front tires where they meet side skirt

Rear tires do not tuck and also rub bumper a little when flexed.
Need to make rear steel bumper.

Well see how things are after body lift, but might check out some pucks for springs to clear the frame up front and allow little more travel in rear since they don’t tuck.

Gears stock 4.30. Will install 5.29 thirds soon.

Not practical for gnar off-road yet but as is great on roads and light off-road.

Not daily driver.

Clearing questions.

I will be adding a rear locker and gears to my life soon and it got me thinking about tire size.

I have been going through this thread quite a bit. I have been trying to nail down different builds that are similar to mine to get an idea on what all needs to be done to get 35's to clear. I probably would not go with Goodyear, which seem to be the tallest tire for their size. More than likely I would be looking to do Cooper STT Pros.

I have SCS F5's 16x8 w/ 3.5" BS, SPC UCA's (already set to 'G' for firewall clearance), no BL (prefer not to run one), and SS rear extended bump stops. I also have an AOR front plate bumper 4X Innovations rear bumper, and Stubbs sliders. I don't have any fender flares.

I see that some, not all, end up having to cut their front fender to widen up the wheel well for up-travel. I understand that there is a high likelihood that I would need to tub for clearing suspension cycle and relocate the washer fluid bottle, but how much body cutting is necessary. I also see people talking about doing the same, or rolling, the rear wheel well lip to keep the 35's from grabbing the body.

I keep reading that 3.5" BS is 'ideal' for fitting 35's, but it would seem to me that they might be MORE likely to contact the body. Am I missing something?:peep:

From what I see, none of my armor seems to be in direct conflict. I have not heard of anyone having issues with their AOR front bumper, 4X Innovations swing out, or Stubbs sliders getting in the way.

How much work am I looking at for no BL? I get the tubbing and water bottle relocation, but how much body modification might be needed with 3.5" of BS?

No, the 1" BL helps. I will need to go up to a 1.5" BL soon.

I added a 2” Body Lift and still rub the firewall at full tuck. I will have to investigate a bit further and see if a firewall cut and weld will be necessary.

I see a tub job in your future. What upper control arm are you running?
