Official 3rd gen 4Runners on 35's Pic Thread

What does a 96 need as far as lift to run 35s? My daughter is set on putting a set on her rig. Currently she only has a Revtek leveling donuts. Stock gearing as far as I know. She has already removed the stock running boards and fender flairs for her current tires.

You need this

A lot of trimming will be required

Thanks, I'm going to do the same thing!

I have 98 as well and will try your method before doing a BL or Tubbing. I'm also thinking about converting to rear leaf springs or the F-150 gas tank conversion so I can have full travel without the drive shaft hitting the tank. Really sucks to spend $$ on extended travel Kings and not get the full benefit.

Im running 35's with no body lift. The Trails less Traveled article inspired me to not do a BL. I did not tub though, I hammered till everything cleared. Take the front strut out and bolt the tire on and move it up and down, side to side and hammer back where it rubs. It took me a little over an hour per side in the front. And I had to remove the inner kick panel and trim it to get it to fit properly. But the result is that I have no rubbing with the exception of on the frame behind the wheel and on the UCA but that will be fixed tomorrow as I will be installing Total Chaos UCA's. A body lift may be easier but it is not necessary.

I did the same process with both my 98 and my 99 RIP.

I think I will do the same. I was thinking about doing a 1-inch BL if it will help eliminate driveshaft rub? I may consider doing a leaf spring conversion or maybe the F-150 gas tank conversion. Gotta figure out the Pros & Cons of each option I guess.

A body lift will have zero affect on driveshaft rubbing on the gas tank since the gas tank is mounted to the frame

You just need to address the panhard bar... Far simpler and cheaper. Bring it back to parallel and the gas tank - driveline is no longer an issue.

First of all I don't know how you guys can roll on 35 with a 3rd gen with our under 200 hp little 3.4 motor because even stock my 3rd gen gets bullied out the fast lane by everything..lol

Hey how do you like the Geolanders MT on the road and in the snow and mud? I've always run Toyo MT but was looking to try another MT

It’s fine, I’m running 4.88’s and an auto trans. 2500 rpms puts me at 72/73 mph. I’m not fast fast but she gets. The Yoko G003 are nice on the road. I’ll report back I have some miles and terrain.

Any updates? I'm looking at the yoko mt in either 285/75/16 or 315/75/16. I have already tubbed the front and can fit the 35's. But not sure if it is worth it for a DD that also tows 5+ hour trips in the summer. (already have 4.88's)

So I guess #1- are 35's worth it to you? and #2: yokos great off road or what??

Stoked to finally be here. Feels right, ya know. I'd say I'm mid-way down the "road less traveled"

- What wheels are you running? 17x9" (4.5 ish BS)
- Do you rub the frame at full lock? No UPDATE: YES
- What specific tire size and brand are you running? 315/70/r17 UPDATE: KO2's summer, 35x12.5 Treadwright ClawII's, siped and studded for winter.

- Are you running a body lift, if so how much? No
- Auto or manual, and what R&P gears are you running? Manual, UPDATE: regeared to 5.29's.

Still have the washer tank UPDATE: Scarab washer relocated. have made some important alignment adjustments (SEE LINK https://www.toyota-4runner.org/3629651-post203.html) , and trimmed the stock front bumper UPDATE: AOR front tube bumper. Trimmed firewall area - pinchweld, some general hammering, fender liner shaving UPDATE: fenders trimmed up past the liner attachments. I still rub some at full stuff. UPDATE - firewall rub is worse with spacers, BTF LCA's coming soon. LOVE the setup though.

Rear still has fender and flaps, with some rubbing on the plastics UPDATE: flaps are gone, bumper still rubs. I'm crossing my fingers the tires will gradually wear down the plastics and show me where needs a little shave or heat gun/massage.

Scarab windshield kit. Tubbed for the tires then installed 1” body lift so hopefully won’t have to do much if I ever go to 37’s. Removed coilovers and bump stops to check clearance at full bump/lock.
