Official picture of 2010 4runner!

See my comments in red.

KellyJ, I'm done with this discussion. You can put any variables into the equation you want to keep this silly discussion going forever (10,000 load or whatever). For the record, we were not talking about the ability of a given engine to pull a load, so THAT is a moot point. The discussion was about how traction is applied in a V8 vs, V6 engine 4Runner. You can believe/think whatever you want. This thread was already derailed enough by this silly debate.

Okay, Gimp

Again, you're completely clueless and don't even realize it. The V6's power is more "explosive" and less controllable? Hahahahaha, good try but completely and totally wrong. Don't look now genius, but the low end torque of a V8 is more "explosive" than less torque produced at a higher RPM, as evident in a V6 with less power/torque than the V8.

BTW, since you obviously have a problem with reading comprehension, I never said that the V8 is a waste because the V6 can break it's tire loose too. In fact, I never even suggested such nonsense. I simply said the traction in a scenario like pulling a boat up a ramp is irrelevant whether a 4Runner has a V6 or a V8. You're the idiot who's claiming that somehow the V8 magically can apply it's power for better traction than the V6 is capable of doing. That's quite possibly the stupidest thing I've heard on this forum and there's no way that even YOU can believe something so silly. So keep arguing with yourself because I know better.

Wow, you have been here 11 whole days and look at you now - still alone in your point. Lets recap - you want to argue about which engine got replaced when the v8 went away and a 4cyl appeared, then about the merits of towing with a v6. I could say I look forward to you future contributions and welcome but I am just going to go find the filter feature so your future posts do not show up any longer. When you come back under another screen name bring your safety helmet and crayons Einstein.

Yup, that's pretty much what I expected you to say. What's the matter, nothing to say about your silly theory on the magical abilities of the V8 4Runner? I didn't think so...

BTW, how long I've been here is irrelevant. Kinda like how long you've been here, but with well less than 100 total posts. Now I see why you don't post often.

My 2 cents about the whole V-8/V-6 can be summed up in this old saying..."There's no replacement for displacement" Cheesy I know, but oh so true haha

:trophy:

Please stop with the name calling / personal attacks (see link to rules in my sig). Thanks :)

A lot of you people just don't get it.

:ybrick:

There is a reason why the GX470 was ONLY offered with a V8 in the United States!

It is a Smooth, Powerful, QUIET engine.

Sure... the V6 might perform almost as good, but it has to Work Harder to do it. Some people Love smooth, slick, quiet power with a good growl and Hate whiny, high revving engines.

I agree. It's a good thing 4Runners don't come with whiny, high revving engines. Leave those to the econo-boxes buzzing around.

Well, does you truck have a powerful V6? Does it have actual passenger size to fit 5 people? Does it even have rear disc brakes?!! Does your 4runner have a comfortable ride? Does your 4runner have 4-channel ABS or VSC or EBD or BA?? Does your 4runner have ATRAC? Can you install ATRAC on your 4runner? (BTW, you can easily put on a rear locker on any 4runner.) Does your 4runner have a strong body-n-frame for superior crash protection? Does your 4runner have side curtain airbags? I can go on and on. You're comparing a USED vehicle made close to 10 years ago to a BRAND NEW vehicle. How much did YOUR 4runner cost when it was new back in 2000? Do you get it now? Is it anyone fault that your 2000 4runner depreciated to $9000?? What i wrote above in response to your post was not meant as an insult, but it was meant to get you to understand that everything is relative.

Now, for me, do you realize that i am THE CREATOR AND ADMIN of this 4runner forum? I used to own a 2002 4runner (same gen as yours)...and thus this forum came about. So, why don't you keep your mouth close before embarrassing yourself more, ok?

LOL!!! Thanks for pointing out all the wonderful features of the new 4runner, as well as the features of the 3rd generations, or lack of. Truth is I don't need all the new fancy features, my 3rd generation (That I bought used I must add!!) does everything I need it to, and that was my point!! Even though you created this forum, does that give you the right to tell someone to close their mouth? What next, you going to ban me for speaking my mind back? If so, then you are spineless my friend, spineless!!

You are adding zero value to this forum, thread, and discussion. The worst forums on the internet are full of people broadly "speaking their mind," (see anything on Yahoo!) whereas the best forums contain facts, pictures, documentation, and thoughtful discussion around topics of interest relevant to those within the online community. Your comment has received a lot of negative feedback because you don't have any data points, analysis, discussion of appropriate experience, or anything else to substantiate that your opinion is relevant to anyone other than yourself. Inciting disagreement is not helpful unless you frame it in a way that can be reasonably debated among interested parties.

It is unfortunate this community has to deal with comments such as yours, and I appreciate the moderators of the site taking the time to enforce some level of civil standards.

You just don't get it, do you?!! THINK ABOUT WHAT I WROTE ONE MINUTE (OR TWO). RE-READ MY POST IF YOU HAVE TO.

No, i am not gonna ban you because you're making yourself look like an ass to the other members all by yourself! Congrats on a fine job! :biggrin2:

Can't we all just get along. I like all 4Runners, new and old. Anyone who owns a 4Runner and takes pride in it is ok in my book. Back on topic, I would love to get the new 2010 but I need to finish paying off the rest of my Tundra before I pick up another 4Runner.

Can't we all just get along... Back on topic....

Now that we're back on topic, I have a question for 2003, or more recent, 4Runner shoppers. I'm very excited about this new 4runner and am planning to replace my aging other-brand SUV with a 4Runner fairly soon. My question is: when would be the best time to buy, from the perspective of price? Obviously, waiting as long as possible to get a good deal on a '10 would be the best, but are there "winter sales" or other such substantive sales events I should be aware of?

Actually, I see it more of a marketing tool. You want a V8, pay more to get the GX470 cause if the 4Runner is available in V8 with a lower price than the GX470, then sales of the GX might go down. At least that's my reasoning.

I actually like the new 5th Gen. For me V6 is enough and I don't care about getting a V8. However, the only reason I would get a 3rd gen over the 4th or 5th gen is due to my dislike for automatic transmissions. I personally would rather get a manual 3rd gen I4 than to get the 4th or 5th gen in automatic, but that's just me. I really wish Toyota would bring back the manual, but I know that's not gonna happen. (also, before anyone blasts me for not liking the auto, I have test driven the 4th gen and the autotranny is not bad at all, I just personally dislike them, but I do have to admit, it's actually one of the better automatics that I've ever driven before.)

thats exactly right! i bet toyota saw that the GX sales have started to go down so now they are making the 4runner only a V6 again. its too bad but the V6 is supposedly supposed to have 255hp

From what I have seen the V6 will go to 268hp and 273lbs-ft from 236 and 266 respectively with the addition of dual VVT-i. It will likely move pretty well. You would have to conclude the new 4.6L V8 would be awesome however. I do believe the theory about only having it in the GX to differentiate between the 4Runner and GX. There is still hope for a later year...

The new V6 will have more than enough power to satisfy 99% of potential 4Runner buyers. Only those who feel that they absolutely NEED a V8 for towing will turn away from the 5th gen because of it's lack of a V8. The ironic thing about that is most of those same guys would probably be able to tow anything they own with the V6. My guess is less than 5% of them would tow anything that the new 5th gen V6 couldn't handle anyway.

I very curious to see what type of tow rating Toyota puts on the 5th gen. I wonder if it will be more than the 5,000 lb limit they put on the 4th gen V6.
