offroad y-pipe interest!!

Since no one makes headers for the newer 4runners I contacted urd to see if they would make an offroad y-pipe. If anyone is interested contact underdogracing-Gadget. The more people interested the better!!

Sooo... these are for header collectors in to a Y? What would be the difference for "Offroad Y's"... not street legal? Any true advantages? Details please. (Sorry if these are stupid questions).

You utilize your stock headers and the y-pipe eliminates the rear cats but wont throw a check light. They are not legal but are easy enough to swap on and off for smog tests and the power gains are worth it.

i believe in a less retrictive Y pipe.

on my solara, having a custom Y pipe brought me 30 hp. but then i was supercharged and the less backpressure the better.

not sure how a setup would be for NA though.

loss of low end perhaps, but i think we have enough to get by with having less low-end power.

Well mine is a V8 so if I can convince urd to make them then yes it will be for the V8 for now but if anyone is interested contact urd racing and tell them.

Can't really commit now but might be interested too. Any prices for a group buy?
With the cat out, would it increase the sound level of the exhaust. I know the purpose of the muffler is to "muffle" the sound but with a less restrictive Y pipe, I assume louder exhaust?
Also, I doubt these can be made as bolt-ons cuz the stock Y's from headers are not bolted to the headers. right?

keep in mind that the Y-pipe for the 03-04 and the 05+ are very different

the ideal Y would start after the exhuast manifold pipe and end right where the cat-back exhaust starts. less flanges this way too.

in the process, 2 pre-cats should be deleted.

cuz there are still o2 sniffers after the cat.

here's a picture of what i mean.

the red circle is the pre-cat or resonator which can be eliminated and i was thinking that would be eliminated on a new Y pipe.

the green is the cat and there are sensors after them, if the new piping does not have that, then i feel a CEL would be set off due to too much emissions.

urd has o2 simulators which would negate the CEL

There are o2 bungs on the offroad pipe so you dont need simulators.

you would still need something to interrupt the signal from the 02 sensor to the ECU as there would be somethign like a "Catalytic Converter Inefficiency" code thrown considering that there would be 0 scrubbing of emissions.

if its just for the 1st section midpipe (with the secondary cats) then we wont need any sort of 02 simulators, but if its to replace all the cats...then we will.

I also got a reply from URD...which made nearly no sense. Sounds like they are going to be working on it though.
