Dealers! The ol' bait and switch game.

So, the dealer tells me "We can get you a 2016 TRD not later then the end of July". Surprise! Ain't happenin'! Now the story is September 10, 15th, or ...

So do you go forward with the purchase at the freakin' end of the model year!
Or wait and order the 2017 in December with stated delivery first "part" of the
New year.

Sure wish there was good and acurate info on the 2017!!!

Why pay full list for a year old model?!

Bilstein or fox I'm sure it will be the same level of performance just a different name and tag. If you know you will mod it I say save money n go to a trail unless u really want that over priced front grill and color

Because its a 4runner and it holds its value quite well. And because youve chosen the figurative purple neon unicorn of the 4runner world (and the dealers know this), and although it shares EVERYTHING with its trail edition brother (except for KDSS option, sunroof option, already aftermarket front suspension, some color choice, and badging). You get the rear e-locker, a hood scoop, and same toyota reliability. You can also easily rebadge like many here have, and all but the most astute 5th gen 4runner owners ( and likely the TRD Bros) will not realize that your 4runner isnt a TRD PRO.

not to mention the TRD rims are heavier than FN rims, and many already shed the nitto terra grapplers for more appealing tire choices. and the list goes on and on and on....

sheesh, i guess at the end of the day you will be in a 4runner, and i wish i had come up with the TRD pro trim bc it has made some prospective owners a bit "coocoo for cocopuffs" over a trim level that has minor differences with the trail edition... oh well its your money, spend it how you wish...

You buy the TRD PRO because it's AUTHENTIC. Just like clone cars and resto mods don't have the same value, the 4Runner is the same way (for the most part). If you have a TRD pro it's like having a house in a certain zip code or neighborhood. Building a TEP like it is the equivalent of buying a house right across the tracks, so to speak. The TRD pro will have more value.

Dude unless you have a major boner for a specific color that can't be done outside of a TRD PRO, get a trail, and upgrade from there.

I say that as a TRD Pro owner. But they're not unicorns outside of Toyota manufacturing rarity by stripping out features and re-badging it.

Seriously, though, I'd do like suggested above. Look around. Maybe consider a road trip if you find what you want. If all else fails, then consider buying/ordering a 2017. Or doing the Trail mod route.

Except the TEP with KDSS is like a house with a view overlooking the TRD Pro neighborhood for less money. It's better both on and off road. It's nicer. And it's cheaper. I'd guess it's actually a lower production volume model as well.

See if you can take your agreed sales price and get another dealer to match it, then get your deposit back.

Pick the color 4Runner you want, and then buy one of those. Upgrade/trade in parts as needed/wanted.

If you want a quicksand one, then do the best you can with as many dealers as possible. I found mine at the end of the model year, and am happy to have it.

The no-sunroof was a selling point for me. Some of us really really don't like them. Also, super cool orange.

I bought at the end of the 15 model year and it didn't matter to me, its the same truck as they made a month later that said 2016 on the sticker. These trucks hold their value, no worries if you plan to keep it a while. As for the PRO, I bought a trail so no opinion on that. I don't pay MSRP ever.

I first and foremost fell in love with the quicksand color, im sick and tired of the same old white and black, and silver and metallic grey sea of vehicles on the road. the quicksand happened to only come in TRD Pro trim so that is what I bought.

In all honesty if Subaru made the Forester XT in desert Khaki I'd probably be driving one of those right now.

I was also very lucky that the Subaru dealer we have bought 3 cars from was in an auto group that also had Toyota stores, so my TRD Pro was ordered how i wanted and sold to me under sticker.

if you want super white or MGM just get a trail premium and make a clone, if you want quicksand, call every dealer in the area and ask to speak with a manager who can answer you on IF they have any allocations available and try to order one from them. Otherwise cast a very wide search on Cars.com but be warned most of those listing are either already ones with deposits or phantom orders that will be marked up to take advantage of desperate people that will pay anything when the 2016 production run dries up (which I think it already has).

Otherwise, the 2017 Cement looks pretty cool and will be unique rolling down the highway.

If you're set on a TRP one downside is a 2017 will likely have a increase on MSRP. Trail upgrade to PRO trim vs OEM TRP is negligible, debate will go on and on...both excellent vehicles won't be disappointed with either.

I got the Trail Edition Premium, my friend to the TRD Pro.. He says mine seems to ride better and gets better gas mileage when comparing the two. Now his color is pretty nice grey, mine is silver, but I paid $6 K less than he did.. I have KDSS also.. With that 6K, I'll get a winch, GOBI rack and maxtrax.. I'll also have money left over to go to Eastern Overland!
