Old Man Emu Landcruiser Coils

I had emailed him about the fj80 springs and he said he doesn't have them listed because its technically not a "bolt on" item as you need to have bump stops and longer brake lines and you can have the drive shaft collide with the gas tank.

I just like being able to walk into a toyota dealership and hand them a part number and be able to get the part so its nice that the OEM shocks will work. And the price is really good. I will be ordering the 861's, OEM LC shocks, top out spacers, extended brake line and diff drop here in the next few days.

Gotta try and catch up with the rest of you guys on here. Well that and try to stuff these big ass tires now.

To get any of the flex you want, then you need to ditch the rear sway bar if you haven't already. Otherwise it will take 100% of the stress and limit the flex by several inches. I didn't need an extended brake line either. I simply took a channel locks or a crescent wrench (can't remember which now) and I bent the brake line bracket down - the one on the frame crossmember (right above the center of the diff). Free-fifty-free. I have a lot of flex and I have slack in my brake line at all positions.

Your driveshaft flange will rub on the gas tank mounting arm. No big deal, but you should take the zerk fitting out of the rear u-joint knuckle (the one that sticks out the farthest) or you won't have it for very long anyways and it can be harder to get out later. Use a small M6 bolt to thread back in the hole. I just keep a zerk to swap in there so I can lube it once in a while.

I am installing a Sonoran 1.51 lift tomorrow. I am fairly certain he uses this part number rear shock:48531‑69416. They are the Tokico black Toyota shocks. I have the lift with the land cruiser coils.

I have the Tokico's for the FJZ80 also...great shock off road and a super smooth ride on road!

Do you need to use the FJZ80 hardware on the rear shocks? (metal plates that hold the bushings) and do the stock FJZ80 bottom shafts mount up to the lower 4runner stock shock posts?
Thanks!

They don't come with the metal plates (or cone washers) for the tops, you'll have to reuse yours or buy new ones. The bottoms mount the same as the 4runner (so do the tops). They are the same kind of shocks as your stock ones, just longer.

sorry to ressurect an old thread but im looking for a pair of ome 851s. Ive searched here and google with no results. Any trusted sites to order from? Or any members selling a pair?

Thanks jeff. Im trying to get 6" of lift in the rear to match with a 6" DB lift up front. Intended to go offroad on the weekends so most of my driving will be daily to work. Not looking for anything crazy stiff either. Which of the 3 springs would you prefer?

I'd suggest going with the 861's. Both the 851's and 861's have the same spring rate, but the 861's are progressive and IMO ride a little softer.

Here is a pic of the two side by side. The left is 861, the right is 851

Thanks for the quick response. I dont want to give up every day driveability but at the same time i dont want the rear to sag too much under load. I guess between the 2, i gotta give up one or the other. Thanks again.

I have the 861s and love them. I got about 5.5" of lift with all my armor, rear bumper w/tire carrier and cargo box loaded with tools and stuff.

Nice ride Gerdo. Im planning on getting the 861s and reuse my airlift bag system for the rear. When the rear is fully loaded with all my fishing equipment, i can use the bags to make the rear stiffer. So the 861 will yield 6" of lift without load?

861

So I have been doing research on these coils, dear lord OME makes a lot of coils.

Right now it is looking like the 861's are the most liked. I have a very similar setup to Gerdo, and I like the rake on his ride. I understand that the 861's are a progressive coil over the 851's...What is the difference from the 891's to the 861's? Brian2Sun, you have run both? Thoughts?

Thanks!

861s give ~1.5" more lift and handle weight much better than the 891s. They might ride a little stiffer, but not much. My old 891s sagged a lot over the first year, but my 861s haven't much at all.

I think you may have sold me on these. From what I can tell there are not many other coils that would offer this, possibly the LC 8 or 9 wraps...??

Stock LC coils are horrible with weight, but are amazing for wheeling without weight in the back. It just depends on if you are carrying more weight or not which spring to use.
