Anybody with a 5th gen have any regrets minor or major? If so what other SUV would you choose?

4Runner has some shorcomings depending on trim and your point of view, there are a lot of info in this forum about all minor and major complains. But to me 4Runner is still the best choice, if I had more money I might consider Trail or Limited but I'm pretty happy with my SR5 so far.

The only two SUVs that I considered were the Pilot and the T4R. I had a 2003 Pilot (all AWDs at that time) before the 2011 T4R. I needed one with AWD or 4WD, and the T4R was the only one available. Would have to wait for months for a Pilot with AWD.

I am glad though that I got the T4R. It appears a little more robust, and is a true truck. Of course, that means the ride is truck like instead of the Pilot's car like ride. In my opinion, get a new T4R or a Pilot. The Pilot LX comes without much bells and whistles, and if you need a AWD version, it will be around $26,500 before TTL. It is cheaper than than the base SR5 T4R, but really the base T4R is comparable to the Pilot EX.

Anyway, my recommendation is to get either of the two.

We were debating which one to get and then my wife sat in the driver seat and the salesman showed her the backup camera and she was sold! Limited it is and now the debate on whether we will get silver or white begins.

Congrats! IMO, you just purchased the best built, most reliable, longest lasting, and most off-road capable SUV available. You have a true 'truck based' vehicle ready for whatever you can throw at it.

I myself was close to the white, but something kept bringing me back to the metallic grey. Silver is really nice...my Ram is Silver, and doesn't show dirt bad.

Hi All,

I am new to this forum and am in the same dilemma. My wife has a 03 Land Rover Discovery SE7 which is nice but build like a piece of junk. We have had a million problems with the Rover so I finally convinced my wife we need to get something more reliable since we are about to have our first baby in May. My problem is that I think the 10/11 4Runner is awesome compared to everything out there however the price is steep. We just sold our condo so we have the cash to purchase however I am debating if we should get an older vehicle and invest more cash or just go all out on the 4runner.

Anybody with a 5th gen have any regrets minor or major?

If so what other SUV would you choose?

Owners with children, how do you find the ease of use?

I'm glad I purchased my SR5 - best vehicle choice I've ever made (my first Toyota) hands down.

On the ease of use for children question - my only regret is not having running boards. My 6 yr old has a hard time getting in and out without them. Other than that, my kids love this vehicle almost as much as my wife and I do. And to this day, I still look forward to getting behind the wheel every time. I absolutely love driving it, which is something I've never experienced before in over 25 years of driving new and used vehicles. Plus, Shift mode gives this thing a sports car feel.

I myself was close to the white, but something kept bringing me back to the metallic grey. Silver is really nice...my Ram is Silver, and doesn't show dirt bad.

I've got a silver RAM too, and we traded our silver Liberty in on the 4R. We started looking the white, really liked it, but came back to silver in the end.

The 2 white ones we test drove didn't seem to wander all that much but they did have the Dunlops on them. We asked our dealer to go out and get our Silver 4R for us because he didn't have one on the lot, but we expected it to have the Dunlops on it too. I just spent a lot of money last year putting Michelin LTX's on the Jeep. Great riding, looking, long lasting tires. And we were prepared to ask the dealer to actually swap them out to the 4R if the sizes matched up. But when we got to the dealer on delivery day, the 4R had a set of Bridgestone Duelers on it. Better looking and better riding tire than the Dunlops, but that isn't saying a whole lot by itself. But I had had a set of Duelers in the past and was very happy with them. So, we didn't make waves about swapping the tires. If the Michelins were still almost new, I still may have made a case for swapping them as I don't expect the Duelers will outlast a new set of LTX's, but given the Michelins had some miles on them, we'll probably come out about the same on longevity as we would have if we swapped. Unless I can be convinced otherwise when the time comes, though, Michelin LTX's will be the next set of tires on our 4R.

We are not sure what to do: We want white but they only come with a beige interior here in Canada, not sure in the US. My wife is worried that beige may "stain" easier since she wants to have a bunch of kids. We are leaning away from silver because my mothers car, my sisters car and my car are all silver and my wife thinks it would be stupid for all of us to have silver. I wish that white came with a black interior!

Thanks for the reassurance Joe, I believe that all the Limited's here come with running boards standard so we should be OK, if not we can always get them after market. I love driving my WRX so as long as the wife like driving the T4R we will be in great shape. Really looking forward to this purchase :cheers:

Well guys, ITS HOME!!! I absolutely love the new ride... it's really hard to explain the handling, but the steering is best described as: if you move the wheel just 1 minute of one degree, the vehicle will move. I'm really used to some "play" in the steering system (probably why I didn't like the steering to start with).
The handling in the snow and ice is just mind-boggling. I was on icy roads with all types of vehicles before, and after driving this for just 200 miles, I've never felt so confident! There is ZERO fishtailing or walking in the ass-end and it just rolls straight as an arrow.

My wife took it today and texts me "I'm in love with this vehicle!"

Oh, and by the way... I have to get new running boards on the T4R... when they put the undecoating on, they bent them. If I wouldn't have read about this somewhere in this forum, I probably wouldn't have noticed until I drove off the lot.
