Opinion: 18" or 24" Magnaflow muffler?

Resurrected! What model 18" did you go with and did you swap it out? I went with the stainless 18" MF 11256 and a 2.5" MF 35136 stainless tip for my 3.4L.

Overall I'm pretty happy with the sound, but it drones a bit & is quite loud (not in a good way) from around 1700-1900 RPM. Almost like there's not even a muffler on there. Seems to be mellowing out as it "breaks in" though.

I have a K&N CAI (77-9015KP) from my old 2002 Tacoma that I'm gonna try out. Wondering if anyone has that combo and how it sounds? May just go the deckplate / ISR mod and put the CAI on CL/Ebay though.

Also wondering if I'd get some different tone by going with a smaller diameter tip? Think I read somewhere about someone running 2.50" up to the muffler then 2.25" from the muffler to a MF 35125 tip.

The rest of the exhaust from the cat back is the special Toyota 2.4" piping, so using 2.25" is smaller than stock. 2.5" would be best.

I have a Borla muffler now (had magnaflow before and did not like it, also fell apart) and it's also louder in the 1800 RPM range. It must just be our engines and how it runs. However, the Borla is a bit quieter and it has a higher tone to it compared, I guess more of a "European" sound than a "Muscle" sound if that makes any sense.

I think with every aftermarket muffler you're going to get that extra sound in the ~1800 RPM range.

Ive been around drag style magnaflows all my life on 4 cylinder turbos. They always droned. Had to blast music on all highway rides and still droned so bad the car would vibrate. But man they sounded awesome opened up and flow light a straight pipe.

Anything louder than stock makes it sound like you're driving a 20 year old Japanese 4x4 with a rusty exhaust. Keep em quiet. I think it's more impressive to see a truck this old sound as quiet as a new car. I'm actually adding another resonator. These V6's sound best muffled down. The intake noise is what you want to hear when you get on it.

Yeah...the CAI with the stock muffler on my Tacoma was pretty nice. Great sound when ya mashed it down and quiet when cruising. I went with the MF because it was time for a muffler and had read about quite a few people liking it. Seeing that I went with the stainless and I have some other work planned, I'll just deal with it until I want a change. It's not obnoxious or anything...just a bit different than expected.

Where do you plan to add the resonator in line?
