Orange peel or tougher paint?

I just picked up a 2013 mag grey sr5 last weekend
Mine has a chrome strip right below the door between the bottom of the door and the running boards.

I noticed the reflection of the door on the chrome looked funny.
Upon closer inspection the bottom of all my doors looks like an orange peel.

If you touch it you can actually feel the bumps/lumps in the surface of the paint

The dealer said they are all like that toyota adds more paint in that section to reduce paint chips/corrosion damage

Seems to me like they could do that and still have a smooth finish

The section I'm talking about is very bottom of the door where the sheet metal curves back towards the vehicle.

Anyway can y'all walk outside check your runner and report the findings?

Completely normal, you might also find that you have a clear textured protective vinyl wrapped over that entire section too, which amplifies the orange peel effect

But yes the actual clear coat of that area is purposely applied with a textured finish, no worries sir.

It's supposed to be like that. Not every 4runner has running boards. When you don't, that area gets dings, dents, and chips. It doesn't show on a textured rough finish. It would on a smooth finish. It's the same way on my tundra.
