Ordered 295/70r17 cooper discoverer stt pro

Sent my wife to do the alignment today. And these are the numbers. What do you guys think.

Seems to me that Glenn did a little bit of a lazy job. The difference in caster between the sides seems too high to me, and I bet it rubs worse on the driver side because of it. The toe seems like it could be adjusted closer to 0 as well. Will it affect driving feel? I doubt it. Will it affect tire wear? I'd guess yes.

Driver's and Passenger's Caster measurements are quite a bit different. They should be closer than that, at least they always have been on my alignments.
This may be within the tolerance of the shop you had it done at, but I'd keep them within 0.5deg of each other.
Mind you, I've read several threads where people were seeing the better part of a degree of difference between the two sides from the factory, so...

I agree with you guys. She had our son with her. And was there for almost 2 hours. I didn't want to ask her to have them get it closer, just figured I can take it back next week.

The passenger side is what rubs the most.

Well, hope you get things straightened.
Best of luck in the new year and all the best to you and your family!

Has anyone ever ran closer to 5 degrees of caster?

I've already done quite a bit of trimming to the rear of the inner fender but it still rubs under articulation.

I'm running 5.0 on the left and 5.2 on the right with everything else in spec. I don't have 295s though just 285s.

I'm running 5+ on both sides, and there's room on the cams to dial in a bit more if necessary. The truck handles very well, though, so I don't see dialing in any more any time soon.

Great I'm going back today. I'm like you and the rubbing drives me nuts. I plan to trim more but want to get it adjusted first.

So it looks like I'm going to need to find a new shop to do the alignment. They refused to change anything. Made an appointment Monday at another shop I originally wanted to go to. But holiday timing didn't work out.

That said I still doubt the wheels can move more the a 1/4". So still planning a lot more trimming.

In this pic I plan to just cut along the line. Should I do more? I'm trying to save to bottom piece that blends the rock guard.

And in this pic I plan to trim along the line and BFH the pinch seam.

Any updates to this? Did you finally solve all the rubbing?

I really like the Idea of running 295's, but don't know if it's worth all the extra effort :bash:, I have an Icon stage 1, Camburg UCA's and bmc plates scheduled for Monday and need to decide on tires by then, Would you do it over again or settle for the 285's?

Yes I did. getting the alignment set to 4.5 driver side and 4.9 passenger side completely took away the rest of my rubbing.

As for going with a 295. Hell yes I would do it again. Actually I would go a 285/75 just to go a little bit taller.

I would say the only negative is the gas mileage hit. But the depends more so on the type of tire you pick. I think a all terrain tire would have less of an affect.

I just went back through the last few pages to remind myself of what was going on.

I would definitely get the caster set as far forward as possible before doing and of the plastic trimming.

I ended up not having go do any of the trimming I have marked with the yellow lines.

Awesome, good to hear, I ended up getting the Camburg UCA w/ ball so not going to be able to get that close to 5, but that does not worry me too much. I also have a MT front bumper on order coming in next week :plane:

What does concern me is the ride quality and Gas Milage, I would get around 11-12 mpg on my FJ after Lift, tires and all the armor and trying to avoid going down the same road.

The WANT factor and astetics tells me to go with the 295's but thinking 285's duratracs might be more logical :rain:.

If your going with duratracs I would definitely go 295's then. Pretty sure they are going to be a d load rating. So they will weigh almost the same, and have all the other same characteristics. If I could do it again I would try to find a tire in the c load range, but I really wanted the tires I got.

I average about 14 mpg. That's with no armor or any extra weight. And 97% city driving.

Uh...try re-gearing the truck properly and this won't be much of an issue.:lightsaber:

That is an option for the 4runner if I decide on larger tires than 285, not really what affected my MPG on the FJ though, it was a Manual Transmission that came with 3.91 gears, was running 285/70/17 KM2's so no real need to re-gear.

OK, thanks for the advice, don't think the duratracs come in a 295/70/17 though, at least I haven't been able to find them, I'll research some more and see if I find them or a similar tire.

1" Fat Pats body lift will help clear them 295s

I saw you talking about your 1 inch body lift in another thread. I'm thinking about a 1/2 inch body lift.

After I got the caster set properly the rubbing is a non issue for street driving. But it still rubs a bit on the passenger side during down hill bumps.
