Ordering GOBI

I can't believe you guys put up with this to get these expensive racks

I couldn't agree more. That's exactly why I'll be getting a Prinsu or Front Runner rack. Of course, I did deal with the same thing from Shrock Works on my sliders and I'd do it all over again for the quality.

So...
Vendor's lack of communication and long wait time:
Sliders - Ok
Racks - Not ok

No, neither are ok. The difference is that Shorck was upfront about their long wait times and delivered exactly at the end of their window. With Gobi and Trail Duty you get sh!t communication and no idea when your $1500+ worth of gear will show up.

I don't really see an issue with the wait to be honest but perhaps that is because I am used to waiting for custom parts on my classic vehicles. Some items are not made at the speed at which other mass produced parts are. Now, if the expectation is that these racks ship fast and communication is good then I see no issue but if you wait 6 months and no communication for the same expectation then that's no good.

Still, 6 months is a long wait but if you really want something you'll have to learn patience. The fast food everything at a finger tip world we live in is not always a good thing.

I was told that the lead time would be about 8-10 weeks, but since this is a made-to-order item, I was prepared for the possibility that it would be a bit longer.

When I ordered, was told they don't charge until it's shipped. Nothing has shown up on my credit card yet, so maybe they're waiting until it's delivered.

I looked into a lot of different racks. I'm very specific about what I want in a rack, and most of what's available wasn't optimal. The Gobi cost a lot more than I wanted to spend but was the closest to what I wanted, plus the free ladder really sweetened the deal.

Got a hold of Gobi via phone again.
Ordered 5/11 through Trail Duty.
When I called them this morning they did confirm that they got the change order from Trail Duty to build for light bar. But she said she had to call me back about delivery status.
Surprisingly she did call me back this afternoon and told me that it's scheduled to ship on 8/2 or twelve weeks since I ordered. We shall see if they can keep that schedule.

No kidding - I tried to contact both Trail Duty and Gobi direct to get answers and neither one returned multiple voicemail messages I had left. That told me enough, not to mention some of the horror stories I've read here.

No doubt it's a cool looking rack but at this point they are a dime a dozen on 5th gens with even a few popping up now in the classifieds.

Good luck to those who place an order though, I hope you guys get the support you are paying for.

Gobi No Rise

I ordered direct from Gobi and during the wait they allowed me to pay on the rack. It was perfect for me because it became a 11 week layaway plan. When it was shipped it was all mine, no credit card used. As I worked off duty jobs I paid it off so that helped. They usually answered the phone for me if I called early in the morning. My rack took a week or so longer than I was initially told but I'm very happy with the end product. The customer service could be better I'm sure but they were nice and always gave me an answer even when it was after checking with the guys in the shop and getting back with me,lol. These are still special order type things so it's not mass produced. Wait times suck but its what happens for a specialty item. I did order my ARB awning mounts from Trail Duty and they told me the mounts would drop ship from Gobi. This took over two weeks. Oh well....

Just got word from Trail Duty last night that my rack will be shipping Aug 8th. That is 12 weeks since I ordered it.

Hahaha I got the same "guys in the warehouse" response yesterday when I called. I ordered mine 5/11 so it's been exactly ten weeks. I was more concerned that they got the change order from Trail Duty to build for light bar. The lady never did call me back. Sounds routine. But from other stories, it sounds like some circumstances might orders up while others are pushed back, which if true, is annoying.

I called back yesterday spoke with Alex. She called me back and said my order is on the production list and expected to ship 2nd week in Aug.

Sorry for the ignorance guys, what is the best way to go about ordering and getting all the "free stuff" to go along with it? Should I call and talk to Gobi directly etc? I'm sure there may be a better way to find out so I appreciate your patience as I apparently suck at finding anything by using the search function in these threads.

Here'e the option I went with as have many others. Pay attention to the style this one is for the "Ranger" version.

So I ordered my rack last night. Although I read the posts and probably should have just not ordered it, I took the chance. Ordered from trail duty, got a weird invoice that doesn't list the "freebies", says "pending". Tried calling trail duty to make sure the order was good and to get some documentation listing the ladder, gas shocks etc, and no one answers. I was forewarned. But they really use some cheezy British accent on their voicemail? Ugh.... think I am regretting this already.

Hey Man don't sweat it. The Australian is legit. You'll get all the goodies. I eventually got a follow up with an itemized invoice.
