Parking Brake

There are actually small brake shoes on the inside of the hat of the rear rotor, they use the inside of the hat as a drum. That is how the parking brake works.

Thank you for jarring that little bit of memory loose. I remember someone telling me that a few years ago.

mine is loose as a whore.

Is this a personal knowledge type thing? I myself wouldn't know how loose one of those is......

To adjust it you have to remove the center console, it is under the storage area.

Parking brake slips on boat ramp

I hear ya. My 2011 SR5 had 42K mi. when I bought it (stock), and always slipped on an incline even with the parking brake fully engaged. Especially on the boat ramp (with 25' pontoon in tow).

Now it's even worse with the oversized wheels/tires.

Planning to have mine adjusted next time it goes in for general maintenance. After reading some of these replies, I'm confident that's all it needs.

I use mine all the time as well. However, I have neglected to disengage the parking brake a number if times before driving off; particularly due to the fact that this is the first vehicle I have had in a looonng time that didn't have a hand brake as a parking brake. This is one item that I'm glad the T4R yells at me (via the warning chime) when I forget to disengage the parking brake.

Did the drive off once and didn't hear any chime. Thinking I don't have that bell/whistle. 2012 SR5
