see my responses below, next to your questions, in red.
i like it. It weighs much less than a steel
bumper. The budbuilt is 101 pounds, if they make one for the 2015. The shrockworks is 137#. A couple other bumpers i found don't list the weights. One is made from 1/8 steel plate on the outer skin for less weight but it's thinner than the rest.
The aluminum welding looks solid and really fine.
The exterior lines look really clean. It fits close in size to the oem bumper so it will still fit in my garage.
I don't imagine there's room to add upper grill and headlight loops as an option due to the shallow, contoured design. you are correct-we didn't design this bumper for hoops-we like the clean look of the factory bumper-but stronger & with the lighbar.
i think the fog lamp cut-outs could have been circular (actually oval at an angle) for a better look that matches the lines of the t4r. to each his own. We did round on the tacoma's & everyone begged for square. We followed the contour of the rig & tyler felt square looked better + accommodated rigid duallies or baja squandrons nicely.
the aluminum tabs for the d-ring shackles cantilever out from the inside frame supports for good strength but maybe these could use a gusset plate at the bottom or both sides to reduce bending fatigue. They appear to be very thick though. they are 3/4" thick & we added additional material around the d-ring hole. We do not see a need for additional gusseting, though with any d-ring it is important to pull as straight forward as possible. We've used this design in the tacoma's for quite some time with great success and no issues.
what grill goes in the larger square opening. I can't tell if that's oem or a new square grill. Is it included? the grill comes standard & is a replacement to the oem one-as the ome one is attached to the bumper that you remove in order to run our bumper. It's a mesh grill. That is how you access the winch in order to get it installed-then you install the mesh grill once the winch is all set up.
cost is 50% more than the shrockworks ($1400). Aluminum costs more than steel. The welding is harder too. there is a lot that goes into making this bumper-so it's priced accordingly
it's probably just me but i don't see where the winch mounts, but i'll take your word for it that it fits any winch you sell. there's a mounting plate behind the bumper that the winch sits on-just like our tacoma bumpers. See this photo on our website to better understand. I'll also snap a photo of the winch mounted & post here

It's more a visual thing, having no contour, just straight, looks better. Any chance we could have the tabs be straight?

Unfortunately it's not a batter of simply changing the D-Ring mount; it requires a re-design of the bumper mount for it & it's simply not something we are willing to do this late in the game; I'm sorry.

Thank you so much for the compliment! At the moment, we still don't have anything in the works for the 10-13 front plate bumper; I'm sorry. Our plate is overflowing & we're just doing our best to keep up right now!

Have you looked into Metal Tech's front bumper? That comes in a couple of pieces.

Julien, you'll have a steel version by then. I'm going to be upgrading mine to the steel bumper, or cross grading, depending on your thinking.
From discussions with Tyler I'd say you'll see one in the next 12 weeks. I know I'm at the front of the line so I'll try to keep folks up to date.
I'm interested to know what the weight gain will be.
Why the switch to steel?

For the kind of occasional crawling I have done, or wish to do, where I'm coming down hard on stuff, having the extra strength of steel would be a benefit to me in the long run.
If you're mostly looking for something that gives you added strength and approach angles then the aluminum is fine.
I just want the added strength of steel, despite it coming at the penalty of a bit more weight.
