Picked up a Scangauge II on the Cheap

With all the talk lately of members looking to purchase a SG2, I hopped on craigslist to see what I could find. I lucked up...a guy 10mins from my work had one for sale for $90. :bigok: Drove down and picked it a short while ago. Works great. Guy said he's only used it a handful of times.

The software is out dated, but after contacting Linear Logic, they said I can send it to them and they’ll upload the latest software version on it for FREE. Should take about a week + shipping time.

Score one for Craigslist.

I was wondering how you got them to update the unit for free. I have one that is 3 years old too. I think it needs to be upgraded to X guage.

This one has Xgauge...just not the latest software update.

Although, if you have an older SG2, you can upgrade to Xgauge + new software for only $25.

I picked mine up on my way to Nor Cal so I could monitor everything and try to set cruise at best MPG. Worked great and finally pulled it off passenger seat and mounted it. I will take pictures soon since others have asked how/where to mount. Oh I got 21.8mpg on 410 mile each way drive. Not bad for lift and 33's with no re gear.

Ok well i went and got a SCOSCHE Grip it GPS mount from Wal-Mart ($24?) that has a long flexible neck on it. I did not use the GPS bracket and there is a T-shape nub on the neck that I cut off to give me a flat surface for the Velcro to mount SG II. Here are the pics. I might move the SG back underneath the GPS since the flexible neck migh allow me to bring it flush with face of GPS. I ran both the power cord and the SG II OBD cord between dash and door then under the bottom trim piece and plugged in.

Hope this gives you and others another option of Mounting the SG II.

Thanks. I had not thought about a gps mount.

Although, I mounted my garmin nuvi 500 directly to the right of my HU and hard wired it in. I'm thinking of mounting the SG2 on the trim piece below the ashtray, but in line w/ the 4wd shifter. It would be some what inconspicuous that way.

I figured if it was in line of site it would be much easier to Monitor the Vitals, which is the main reason I got it. I like having things out of the way or Stealth but also need to look at the practical side of being able to read it while driving. I thought about mounting it to the steering column in front of the gauges but couldnt figure out a sleek enough route for the wires.

Slightly off topic -- I'm considering getting a Scangauge II and was wondering does anyone know for certain if XGauge will read transmission temperature for a 3rd Gen. (2001) T4R?

I've heard both yes and no so I'm not sure. The Xgauge documentation on Scangauge's web site looked kind of old and I didn't see anything definitive.

Yes it will read the '99 and newer Trans Temps. I hope they come up with the codes for the 96-98 soon so I can have it monitor mine.

That's where I'll put mine when I get a month with some extra cash floating around and I buy one.

do a search on ebay for xguage. Theres a guy on there selling them with a windshield mount - maybe you could convince him to just sell you the mount

I don't mount anything in the plain sight, it's just asking for some dirt bags to break in.

I had mine tucked between the driver sun visor and head liner with a piece of Velcro.

SGII is a great tool for saving money on fuel by teaching me how drive. before SGII, I normally got 16mpg on a good day, here is the numbers I got today:

remember, I have steel plate bumpers front and rear, 265/75/16 AT tires, regular 87* gas.

I took out my ashtray and mounted it with velcro. The fit is so perfect It almost looks like it was made for it. Wire is hidden behind it. But I do have to look down to view it.

Nice work. I use my ashtray a lot as it is...no I don't smoke, but it's great for holding quarters.

Thanks, but I'll have to pass. Like TC4Rnr, I don't plan on mounting anything on my windshield. Draws too much unwanted attention from passerbys IMO. Plus the heat we have down here most of the year, it would keep falling off. A co-worker of mine drives an '07 Sport w/ a windshield mounted GPS. Walking by her vehicle the other day during lunch, I noticed the GPS laying on her dash - mount and all. She's now starting to look at a different way to mount her GPS.
