Gents, after painting the front headlights black I noticed the Trail Ed might have black painted tail lights. I'd like to request close up pics of the Trail Ed tail lights. Multiple angles and close ups would be mucho helpful... I may just have to pull the bumper and do the tails too.

I couldn't find anything on GOOGLE closeup but it looks like a small corner of it has a tinted black portion. Someone here will post pics sooner than later however.

Trail Ed certainly does have black in the tail housing.

be careful though. Tacoma owners used to do the BHLM to their headlights, but the tails were a no go. the lens was too thin and would snap if you tried to pry it off. Maybe get a cheap practice tail on eBay first.

Awesome. I can't tell if the portion BENEATH the red (while looking at the side of the car, not from the rear) is black or chrome. Could some of you TE guys tighten me up?

I realize the light portion that the bulbs themselves use are chrome, but is the rest black?

Thanks... I may tackle that this weekend with finishing up the black door handles and the rear, as well as building a rear deck for the trunk area this weekend.

The Limited's rear are chrome.......from all the pics I've seen online today it appears that the TE's are either a Gunmetal Chrome or Black. Hard to tell by the pics online though. Check out here though, you may want to do this instead:

I had to replace a tail light, someone backed into it :ybrick: They are very thin! I would have kept it if I thought it would have been of any use to people.

I really like the clear plastic with the dark behind it. I've got a silver 4R and I don't think a tinted bottom portion would look all that hot. Black on black looks good though.

yea and that's what I'm trying to tell the OP. after you put your light in the oven you really have to pull to separate the lens from the housing. i think if he tries using this same technique on the tails the lens will just break.

you may want to consider just doing a light tint over the whole tail

Gents,
I get that the lens is thin. However I think the risk is worth the personal reward of nixing the chrome. If I wreck one, that's a price I'm willing to pay. The TE headlights were like $250 each. If the tails are similar it would be worth it to at least try on my own before I fork over for TE tails.
