Pioneer Avic D3 installed - lost 4 of 10 speakers, please help

I had the pioneer avic d3 installed with bluetooth, ipod and sirius. I have a 05 4runner with JBL Synthesis 10 speaker systerm. The installers gave me my car back with only 6 of the 10 speakers working, saying there is no way around this. I think thats absurd. I now have no rear cargo speakers, no sub and no front center speaker. Does this make sense to anyone? Anyone know a work around or something i need to buy to make it work. Please help me, as I find this unacceptable.

Look into Metra TY-01 wiring harness. Supposedly it'll let you keep your 10 speakers. There are some people on this forum that got aftermarket units with 10 speakers intact. So look into it. Wonder if the installer split wires instead of using the harness?....but what do I know, I only have installed one head unit so far
I'll be getting that harness when I get my unit. I can't wait! :

My install bill says Metra 00+ Lexus with Amp. You think that is wrong?

Use the TYTO-01 JBL adapter for your D3 and you'll have all 10 speaklers up and running.

Those guys who installed your system are probably not very good if they can't get a set of RCA cables to hook up to a head unit.

Here is what I got on another forum:

Your stock head unit utilizes a low level signal that went to a stock amp. From the amp, it was able to power the 10 speakers. The installers had to bypass the amp, and wire the speakers straight to the HU, which has an internal amp. This internal amp only has 4 channels with the minimum impedance of 4 ohms per channel. If you wire more than 1 speaker to this channel, it must not go below 4 ohms, or else the HU would cut out. Because of this, only a certain number of combinations of speakers can be wired to the head unit safely. On top of that, you split the power of each speaker by wiring them together. If you want all 10 to be working, you have to have an external amp. I highly advise against it and you should consider geting a new set of aftermarket speakers.

However, you might be able to utilize the low level preamp outputs of your new deck and use the stock amp. You have to search for the adaptor that does this.

The guy is telling you a bunch of bull$#!t or he's totally uninformed. Believe me I was one of the first people to pester Peripheral and Metra to come up with a plug and play digital interface for the JBL system...waiting for conformation actually delayed my build almost a year and a half.

I was able to use a 2004 Pioneer AVIC-N1 that I've had in my closet since 2005 on my JBL system using Metra's TYTO-01 digital interface. Basically the Metra kit sends the digital signal needed to turn on all 10 speakers. As long as your headunit has a set of front and rear RCA inputs, then you're good to go. You don't even need a dedicated subwoofer output, just front and rear which the Pioneer D3 most certainly has.

It's too damn bad I don't have the 4Runner anymore...I finally got in a navi system and got to enjoy it for all of 2 months!

So I guess the best bet is to take my car back to the installer and tell them to try this TYTO-01 harness? Thanks guys, this has given me relief knowing that this can work.

So is best buy or circuit city ok to try and get my install fixed? What a lousy exp. this has been so far. When I finally get it all perfect, I will post some pics and possibly be happy!

They should be able to, but it all depends on if and how they split the wires. Personally I hate splitting wires. I LOVE harnesses for that reason. Make sure you study this forum religiously before you do any mods. Lots of good infos.

I'm going to be installing the Kenwood DNX7100 this week and utilizing all the necessary adapters. I'm also doing a detailed writeup with pictures etc. Will post when finished.

Just to keep everyone updated, the harness TYTO-01 will arrive at my house tomorrow and I will immediately take it to Circuit City for installation. I hope to god that the previous installers havent wrecked havoc on the wiring...I will let you guys know how it turns out tomorrow night. I hope to have this hellish install over with and maybe then I can truly start to enjoy my new nav system.

Good luck Chris! My parts came on Sat shy the actual DNX7100 that I'm installing. I ripped the whole dash apart and installed the adapters. The TYTO-01 plugged in like a charm to the OEM harness. The DNX7100 should be here tomorrow

You say it plugged into the OEM harness like a charm. Is there a chance my original installers took out the OEM harness and that I will need to order that also? Please say no...

Well, there is aways a chance....but it's a small one in this case. I HOPE they spliced into the wires. Either way, CC should be able to resolve it. Here's a pic I just took with how it "should" look...

Well, I will find out tomorrow day or night. Two more questions for you. I barely get any AM reception...I guess CC could fix that too? Also, my nav unit came with a speed sensor wire and a reverse sensor wire, but they hooked up neither. I know the reverse wire is for a backup cam I don't have. But what about the speed sensor wire?

AM/FM: If you have the film-type Antenna like most, the antenna's leads need to be supplied with power. The stock OEM units do this by default but aftermarket units normally don't. It sounds like your shop just didn't know what they were doing. Mention it to CC when you go in.

Reverse Sensor: This is really only needed if you have a rear-view camera installed. If you don't have one then you don't need it.

Speed Sensor: Most Nav units need this to make calculations correctly in hilly terrain etc. The picture I posted above shows the location of the wire. CC should be able to fix this....hell, ANY good installer should be able to do that. Here's a pic of the actual wire.....

The nightmare may be continuing! My baby is currently at CC with the installer. He didn't seem to knowledgable about the TYTO-01 harness, but assured me that if i said its meant for this situation then he could make it work...IF THAT IS...they didnt' chop off the OEM harness, in which case i would need to reorder that...speak of the devil, they are calling me...ok, he told me they rewired the whole car with all new speaker wire, so for him to get that harness to work, he has undo what they did and do it his way...$280 more bucks. If that equals the end of this nightmare, I'll take it. Thought I would keep you guys updated.
