Good news, bad news. Opened up the box from Witch Hunter. Read the before and after results for the injectors, turns out all 6 injectors were good. Not much difference in the before and after actually.

So, what I long suspected was a misfire that the PO was experiencing due to a bad injector may not have been after all. I did leak down test this motor though and it was good.

Now, do I finish putting it back together and hope it's okay with the fresh heads and cleaned injectors? Or do I yank it out and go with my original plan of just dropping a used motor in it? Hmm...

Not a good feeling at all.

I vote to finish it as is. If it's good with a leak down, I wouldn't worry. Did you ever think it's a coil pack gone bad on both of them? Or even one of the extension tubes that goes between the coil and plugs? They do go bad from the heat from time to time.

Haven't updated this in a while but here's where I'm at. I have way too much going on to try and d*ck around with this questionable motor. Bought a used 5VZ from a friend of mine. It ran it's ass off before he totaled his truck so I have faith in it.

I started pulling the old motor today. Used JMT's write up as a guide.

I got as fas as pulling the flex plate bolts but ran out of time. I had a lot going on today for work and taking a full day off just wasn't in the cards. So, hopefully I can finish pulling this motor next week and get the swap done.

With my two other 4Runners, I have kind of lost interest in this one and just want to get it finished and sold.

New motor is in. Still have to throw the intake on it, hook up the accessories, etc. Hope to be done this weekend.

Seriously have no idea how to ensure that the input shaft on a 5spd goes into the clutch without having to be forced in.

This one is an automatic so little different issue. Did you drop the trans when you pulled it? I would think it'd be easier to throw the motor in and then push the trans back up and in once the motor is in place.

Success, spinning fan can only mean one thing

Got to drive it around a little bit tonight, runs great. Nice and tight to drive too, those Tokico's are pretty nice. I'm really happy with this one. Have to replace the stretched out hood release cable (seems to be a thing with my 4Runners) and then get the paintless dent repair guy on it. Someone is going to be getting a really nice 4Runner.

THanks guys, I'm pretty happy to have it back together. Took a lot longer than I had planned but that's life. I had my buddy Rob help me with it. I f*cked my shoulder up pretty bad about 5 years ago in a motorcycle accident. I was trying to pull the motor myself in my driveway but turning a wrench over my head just isn't happening these days. Having good friends to lend a hand really goes a long way.
