Plasti Dip to Two Tone my Silver

Hey guys, I have my 99 and since its a limited it has color matched bumpers and fenders and in millenium silver they made the whole thing one tone, i personally dont like that I like the two tone runners. So if I were to hypothetically plasti dip the bottom to 2 tone it is there any suggestions? Should I do black or maybe a dark grey to look nice? And should I plasti dip the bumpers or maybe just the fender flares and bottom of the door along with the running boards...anyone do that or have photos or anything? Advice please, thanks! Oh and I will be plasti dipping the chrome lip on the wheels I did one already and it looks 100 times better

Personally, I think you're nuts. A millenium silver limited is probably the nicest looking color/trim combo that came on a 3rd gen. JMHO tho.

I have the same truck, thinking the exact same thing as you. I was going to plasti dip the bumpers, flares and bottom of doors. If you go ahead with this, post pictures I am very curious to see how it turns out!

I agree. Most of the two tone color schemes kept me from buying a limited when i was shopping for a 3rd gen. I looked and couldn't find a Mil. Silver close to me

Yeah, I think it's a great looking truck as-is.

On the other hand, I Have a '99 limited with burgandy and then grey flares. And the paint on my flares has been peeling off for quite awhile.
I may have to make plasti-dipping it a projector someday.

The gold would look great with the burgandy body color, but I'll probably stick with the grey/silver/aluminum type color. I don't feel the need to really stand out that much.

I think it would look cool. I have also been thinking of doing something similar to mine one day. I think you should include the bumpers so that there is a clean cut off from the body to the black.
All the factory two tones have a lighter trim color. I think silver and black with the trim being darker will look much better than the factory two tone colors.
Be sure to take plenty of pictures when you do it I would really like to see how it will turn out.

I did mine 2 years ago in plastidip black. Did bumpers front and back and all of the cladding. Looked great for the first year and a half, then its really hard to keep it looking fresh. The mud and dirt sticks to it. I took all of mine off recently, it should just peel off but you will have no fingerprints left by the end. I ended up using goo-gone and a stiff brush to melt/rub it off. I am looking for factory painted gloss black flares now. That or a spray booth and use line x. I have pics of my truck in my build thread.

I dont like the look of the stock plasti dip for the trim, in my opinion it will make it look like its just unpainted bumpers and what not and look cheap, I want it to look classy and clean looking cuz my 4runner is in excellent shape I get compliments on it all the time

I actually think it looks really clean the way it is.

If you do dip it I wouldn't do black, black plastidip looks cheap to me (that's just me)if I were going to plastidip for 2 tone I would do the anthracite. If you don't like it you can always peel it off.

Really? I have a mil silver cause' those were the only ones in my price range when i was shopping, LOL. They're prob the most popular up here.

IMHO the BSP ones are the best looking, in sport / highlander trim, then limited trim...

I also think the single tone matching cladding/fenders looks great. I like single and 2 tone vehicles the same (within reason). However, I think using plasti-dip will make your 4runner look cheap. If you're going to do it, do it right and get it painted with a gunmetal or black metallic to match your silver paints flake. Plasti-dip will not cut it.

Did someone say my name? I'm not on my computer right now but when I get to it ill post some pics of mine. I know I've posted them before but I can't remember where. I like the look. To me the silver on silver looked very clean but I was looking for a bit more of an aggressive look. If I succeeded, who knows but I do like the way it looks. I did the flares, body cladding, bumpers, and side mirrors. Mine is all done with bedliner so there's no going back for me. But plasti-dip is definitely the way to go if your unsure.

I agree with ARKRWLR. I like the plasti-dip for badges and emblems, rims, etc. But may be a bit much for all the trim. My flares were pretty beat up when I bought the truck so I'd always wanted to fix them. I'll attribute the beating to someone running into things whilst trying to park at the mall. All the plastic was removed, refurbished, prepped, painted and clear coated. I used a GM semi-gloss black. I was hoping to get it as close to a factory look as possible. Finding factory black cladding and flares sounds difficult. Also the hard rubber moldings above and behind the plastic from Toyota is about $110. We resolved this problem with a big permanent sharpie marker for $4.50. It's held up great. Plasti-dipping would be a lot cheaper and far less of a can of worms than removing and doing a full on paint job. Here's a pic of mine for what it's worth-

This truck is very clean as it sits right now. So many members would love to have this truck as it sits now. The wheel package is very nice and the brush guard fits well with the fat lip bumper I think. Just lift it and call this good. It is a very nice truck.

My 2 cents.... leave it all Silver... love the Silver 4Runners! Like Old Blue said, lift it, and call it good! I'd drop the brush guard though.... but that's just me.

is that really the sharpie job? if no props, not really my thing but from a distance it looks nice, not sure about up close though, and was there any result on the 2 tone paint job?

The sharpie marker was just used to color the hard rubber molding that goes behind the flares. What do you mean by result on the 2 tone paint job?
