Plastidip roof rails

How much Plastidip?

I am looking to do this on my rails and caps, the crossbars are already black. Did you brush or spray? How much did you need to use?

I ended up sanding and painting mine. Mine came out looking factory. I did take them off to paint.

I debated about painting mine but decided to just plastidip them for now. I'll probably be replacing the rack relatively soon anyway but if I decide to keep it I'll take it and have it professionally stripped and powdercoated.

I'd plan on two cans for the end cap covers and the rails, three if you have to 'dip the crossbars too. My covers are black already but it took me a full can and one coat from a second to do just the rails. My crossbars were black also but I also left them off for now. I'll most likely put my Yakima Railgrabs and bars on instead.

I also removed them from the truck as I don't see that it's possible to do a good job while installed, and you'd have to mask the whole truck to prevent overspray.

yeah, i used just over 1 can on my rails.

then i put the crossbars on and it scratched it. go figure.

Yeah, that's one of the reasons I left mine off. I figured I can mount the Yakima Railgrabs with little to no damage to the Plastidip but sliding the OE rails through the t-slot was doomed to end in pissed off frustration accentuated by profanity.

i got lucky and fell into a Bajarack Utility Rack.

How many coats is everyone doing on their rails? My end caps are black already so I guess I could just go until I've used 1-1.5 cans on the rails? Haha.
