Hi all, long time lurker, used threads here to assist with self installing ICON stage 2 last weekend. Great experience despite taking a whole weekend!

I noticed cracks on both lower shock mount flange weld. Toyota of course is pointing at the shiny new coil overs and saying... "No". Paint definitely cracked and came away with thumb nail, with no visible fissures at the weld joint. Slight rust build up where the gap was in paint tells me its over a week old.

Anyone with or without lifts seen this before? Thoughts?

Which front lift did you install? Did you disconnect the upper control arm and slide the assembly in and out that way instead of disconnecting the lower control arm?

Bilstein 5100 @ 2.5". I left the UCA alone and just disconnected the lower ball joint assembly with the LCA supported by the floor jack. Lowered the jack very carefully as to avoid a trip to the hospital. The spring and strut fit through the UCA no problem once you unbolt them.

At 30K finally have got a lift installed 4- 4Runners later! :clap2:


Decided to go with 285/70/17 KO2's and could not be happier! Someone mentioned using a heat gun for the inner fender walls- this worked perfect! I had very minimal rub after the spacer install.


The only thing I have noticed is that I have to down-shift on hills so that the transmission will kick into 5th gear otherwise it hangs at 3K RPM until I do. Anyone else notice this?

Installing myself is fine, but on jobs like this I'm always missing some stupid unicorn tool that's needed for this one job only or I break something haha.

I had my 6112's & 5160's & ICON rear springs all installed at my local shop for under $500 out the door including alignment & taxes. In my mind that was a great deal as I didn't want to mess with it nor did I have the time or all the tools (really didn't want to mess with any spring compressor)

GzTEP...what should the pre-load be? I am planning on adding front and rear bumpers, sliders, roof rack, skids...etc. That's why I went with the 3" coils in the rear and more pre-load up front for the added weight. I appreciate any help or recomendations.

Well I have my driver at 19 threads and passenger at 15 and I'm towards the high side of preload.

If you're going to add weight to the front you should go with a 700# spring And maybe 14" rather then 13". Give icon a call.

My passenger side is at 17 threads and driver at 27 ..but looking at the front of the truck it is sitting level and i confirmed this using a 4' level.
That is about an 7/8 inch difference in preload. Why such a big difference in thread count between mine from side to side to sit level than yours? That is assuming yours is sitting level. The height from the center of my wheel hub to the fender is 24" passenger and 24 1/8" on the driver. The rears are both 25.5".

I will put some more miles on it and let it settle some more and readjust from there. Thanks for your help.

Yep. Mine definitely doesnt want to shift either. Loves that 3k rpm.
