People run spacers so it gives the tires/wheels a wider stance. There is no performance advantage and as mentioned above they worsen tire rub. Don't get spacers unless you want to start cutting or trimming.

I understand what all that means. Just wanted to make sure. Sounds like I'll fine with stock trail rims and 285s. I don't understand the wheel spacers at all... my thought process is why not eliminate tire rub and avoid rock chips and paint damage by keeping the wheels where they should be. If the only reason is looks, no thank you.

on my stock TE rims and 285, I had very slight rubbing on mud flaps at full lock.

Spacers are for purley aesthetics, or in some cases, its used to clear UCA's. IMHO, TE wheels with its positive offset have a sunken in look, and it looks worse when you raise the car.

I run 1.0 spacers on my stock TE rims w/ 285's and I had to modify my front fender, mud flaps, and play with alignment to get it to stop rubbing. However, to me it was worth it, because I cant stand the sunken in look, and the 1.0 inch spacers brought the wheels exactly flush to the fender line.

Well, it took me over four years to wear out my stocker 265s. Four years of obsessing over lift options and researching on this site. I finally went with the Toytec Ultimate, Spidertrax spacers, TC UCAs and 285 Toyo Open Country ATs.

Many thanks to everyone here who enabled my OCD :lmao: and helped me to make an educated choice. Thanks also to Scott and Shawn at GTPeace for making it happen!

Very nice! What crossbars do you use for your rack? Just the regular 5th gen crossbars on all other models?

Yeah, just the OEM cross bars. I've hauled a bunch of landscaping lumber up there and never had an issue. I really dig the Gucci aftermarket racks, but not sure I'm ready to drop that kind of cash. Maybe after another four years:jump:

Almost done

All.pipes were re-done. Do not buy afe power headers they do not line up. Go with URD.
Bumper was thrown on from 4x4 labs also relocated power steering fluid.

I finally get to post here. Went with a "low" lift with the OME NitroCharger shocks with 883/895E coils. Big shout out to Cruiser Outfitters and Low Range Off Road here in Utah for supplying the parts. Took me all afternoon and evening to do the install (having never done it before) and that includes a run to the hardware store. As a green shade mechanic it wasn't too bad but it would have really helped to have an second hand and at times I thought it would have just been easier to have the shop do it. At least next time it will be much much easier doing it myself. Basically watched a ton of youtube videos for install directions.

Lowrange has a great one here

In my excitement to star the job I forgot to get pre-lift wheel measurements but I'm guessing it gave me 1.75-2" up front and about 1.5" in the rear. Still has some rake which is what I wanted but it is less prominent. The ride is definitely firmer then stock but no jarringly so. As others have mentioned the ride just seems a lot more planted and composed than the floaty and rolling sense that the stock suspension gave you. It also solved my rubbing issue. Initially was going to go with a Bilstein 5100 setup but after speaking with a bunch of vendors they universally recommended OME over the Bilsteins. The Billys probably give a better on road ride but I think OME has the best balance of price, performance, durability, reliability and ease of maintenance.

sn_85 Could you measure the distance from the frame rail to the ground behind the front wheel and in front of the rear control arm?

I'm curious how close to true frame level this setup is. I'm considering a lift but as the 4Runner comes from the factory there is only about 0.25" of forward rake so just about all the popular lifts cause reverse frame rake.

I couldn't find a truly flat level surface to measure on but I have about a 0.5" of forward rake. However remember that each setup will be different depending on variances and load. Take my measurements with a grain of salt, again I couldn't find a level flat surface to get accurate measurements on.

How it sits currently with Fox 2.5 IFP fronts and 2.0 rears + OME 2895e coils.

Preloaded the shit out of these to get this lift. This cannot be good for the longevity of the coilovers. I am running an additional 350lbs toward the front using the Fox 13" 600lb coils. I am going to install heavier and longer 14" 700lb coils this Saturday. Will update post when finished.
