Problems with CV boots ?

I had a friend install a lift a few days ago and he noticed the driver outside CV boot was throwing grease. I took the truck to the dealer and am waiting for a boot.

Now I hear a clicking up front. Maybe it's the lift but I'm afraid it's the CV joint. I can't imagine it already going bad as I can hardly find a hole in the boot. It seems that it couldn't have been throwing the grease that long.

Anybody have issues with CV boots or joints in their 2010?

How much lift?

Without knowing all the details I'm thinking your friend may have damaged it during install. You hear clicking now, and the boot hasn't been replaced yet?

OW kit and it's a solid 2.5 " up front. We noticed the boot as soon as the tire came off so it was not us. I brought it to the dealer 2 days later after about 50 miles on the new kit. The next day after the dealership visit, while waiting on the boot, it started to click.

Seems a little quick from finding the boot issue to clicking but I can't really say how long the grease has been thrown. I am surprised I didn't see it myself earlier. Supposedly these components were checked a few days earlier when I had my oil change.

I'd take the lift off before I brought it in. They could very easily tell you the lift is what caused the boot to tear and make you pay for it.

First one I heard of any!
Is it a rip or a hole in the boot?Or did the band come loose?Might have been really bad luck as something sharp had to come up and hit it or you ran over something as that rubber is really pretty tough.

I don't know if they'll warranty it anyways unless it was a manufacturing defect as you had the truck for awhile and road hazards are'nt covered.

I see you already brought it to the dealer but, as mgrande just said they'll usually blame it on the lift install as you all were working right down there and they'll think the jack slipped and damaged it.

Found the hole for sure tonight. Just a very small hole toward the top in the groove of the 2 largest sections. I'm very curious how long it's been there. I'm afraid I'll take my lumps on this one. I've had very few issues in the past with vehicles so maybe it's time for me to pay up.
