If you can sink it in a lake and then get it running by the end of the day then it would officially be the toughest vehicle ever. Until that point it is not. That's my benchmark because I've done it with Yamaha big bear ATVs. They went through ice and I got them running within a few hours. So now we only buy Yamaha ATVs.

FWIW in the 80's I helped pull a Toyota truck out of a river with the cab fully submerged for a few hours. After about an hour we got it started. I don't know the long term effects on it but that much had me pretty impressed.

FWIW in the 80's I helped pull a Toyota truck out of a river with the cab fully submerged for a few hours. After about an hour we got it started. I don't know the long term effects on it but that much had me pretty impressed.

I was involved is something similar in the late 90's. I pulled a late 90's Tacoma that was about 70% submerged out of a pond. We advised the woman driving it that she shouldn't try to start it but she tried anyway and after a few tries it fired right up and she drove away with water still pouring out the doors. In fact, she drove it from NM all the way back to WA without any issues. I know this because she wrote me a thank you card when she returned to WA. I was pretty impressed by it.
