The ones that I used had 20 leds total (15 side facing leds and 5 forward facing leds). They are called the light tower 2. I know that autolumination has them for about $20, but I found them on ebay for about $25 for the set. Now keep in mind that these bulbs are 3157. The ones that you have pictured look to be the narrower 7443. It will have to match the socket that you used for the bumper lights.

i would go with the 16 led one. it seems that the leds are better mounted and have more mounted at the top which would be facing out. just a thought. depends on how much you want to spend but i got the 7443 from supperbrightleds.com and there fine, but if the ones your loooking at are cheaper then go with those but the ones a www.superbrightleds.com are good too.

You may have the same problem that I had with my led bulbs. I talked about this a page or so ago in this thread and it has to do with adding a diode in the tail circuit to prevent feedback when both the tail and brakes are active. A quick way to check this would be to try the tail lights first, then turn them off and apply the brake light to see if they are brighter. For my case when the tails were on, applying the brake added no increase in bulb intensity.
It may be worth looking into.

Yeah, I probably should look into it. But I thought that the leds already had the diodes and resisters and whatever built right into them.
I also thought that since I have leds in the bumper lights that maybe the two different bulbs just didn't work together very well, if thats a possibility.

I was able to find that diode result out just by experimenting a little. I did think that the these bulbs were supposed to be plug and play, so I'm not sure if my bulbs were wired incorrectly internally or if there is something else with the wiring that I didn't take into consideration. It may have to do with the way that I wired them to mimic the stock tail/brake light, but I can't see how that would cause any problems.00328 said:

Just a helpful piece of information for anyone getting ready to complete this mod: DO NOT, I REPEAT, Do not buy the pigtails from Checker, Pep Boys or any other discount auto parts store. Buy factory direct or use a lighting specialty store.
I bought the cheap $12 3157 pigtails from Checker and I DEEPLY regret it. They are built so cheaply they can barely hold and fit the bulb correctly. The contacts in the socket are crooked and the bulb moves within the socket losing the connection with the contacts.
It has been like this since I completed the mod a couple months ago. I actually wasted 2 hours of my life after I finished the wiring trying to find out why one of the lights wasn't working, when in reality, the bulb wasn't making contact when it was seated in the socket!!!:bash:
Even after I realized that was the problem, I still get to pull the lens every couple weeks and push the light bulb back in!! HOW ANNOYING!!
I'm just waiting to get pulled over because I have a tail light out, even though its one of four, cops in CO will pull you over for any reason including a burnt out auxiliary tail/brake light.

I bought mine from Advanced auto for like $4 each and haven't had an issue yet.
Must be nice....You should see these incredible pieces of sh*t. I'll take a pic and post when I pull it out this weekend, my girlfriend got me a digital camera for Christmas (yay).sharp4runr said:

Anyone know the factory part number on the wiring harness that fits into the female end of the lamp socket? I ordered the factory light socket (with male plug) and the female socket connector, but the connector doesn't have the wiring or the contacts inside of it! I assume this would be another part number, but I have no idea where to start. Can someone help? Thanks!!!:cursin:

if you know how to solder its easier to do what i did. i just soldered the wire to the contacts.

Very nice. Interestingly enough, though, the connectors I received didn't have any contacts in them at all. Any idea where/how to get those? Or, I suppose I could try to solder directly to the contacts in the lamp socket itself...but I fear that would be a bit messy. Also, what kind of wire did you use? (i.e. gauge, stranded, etc.)? Thanks again!

i think it was 14 guage stranded. it is what i had, 16 will work too. go to page 8 i posted a pic of the part number.
