Question On Installation of Icon Billet UCA

I've made the big decision to install my first lift kit on my 2014 Limited. Figured the best way to learn on how it all works is to do it myself. Plus I get more satisfaction out of my hobbies when I do the work.

I have all my links set for Icon lift kit references provided by other 4Runner owners.

Questions:

The image above it the Taper adapter and its "assembled" but the instructions are to install it up into the uniball.
My issue is, how do I remove the 12pt bolt that holds the taper dome on without damaging the adapter?

Will I be using any of the HEIM Spacers?

I recall reading that the rod ends are pre set. Is this correct?

Is there anything I should be aware of or issues others had when installing their Billet UCA?

Thanks for your help!

This will be an awesome experience for you, despite any potential headaches you're gonna be happy you did it yourself!

I can't help with the UCA's, others will post and you can always call Icon. I just wanted to let you know that removing your XREAS system will probably be the worst part of this install.. the rest is cake granted you get that uniball bolt squared away.

Taking out xreas isn't that bad, in fact I still have the tubes and reservoirs under my truck. For speed we just disconnected at the wheel wells, it is extra work though.

OP if you wanted to take out Xreas in tact I think there is a walk through if you search, Harper7 may have it it his thread (though he is no longer on here)

Instructions here show orientation of the spacers. I also attached a picture. Left side of screen is front of vehicle.

For the taper adapter... Try it by hand first. Maybe a vice with soft jaws. I've done things like old drive belt or strap wrench rubber and a vice grip.... Should come off pretty easy.

Not sure if they heims are pre-set. You will probably want to start with them as far in as possible. The idea is to be able to adjust them on the truck to get camber lined up.. but the trucks tend to move towards positive camber as you add caster. You will want as much caster as possible. 4+. So more tucked in would be the place to start.

I just did my suspension 2 weeks ago and both of these links helped me out a lot.

Word of advice when taking off the UCA. Remove the nut and ball joint from the spindle before taking out the bolt. It makes it a lot easier to disconnect the UCA intact.

Thanks guys for the quick responses. wfo9 I'll give the vice grip a tri. I have a couple of old golf grips that might work well so's not to mar up the adaptors. I'll let you guys know how it comes and if I run into anything, I'll make sure to document for someone else.

I think you can afford a 12 pt socket. ;)

Little confused now that I think about it. Did the OP mean he did not have a 12pt?

Typically the bolt just slides out of the misalignment spacers once the nut on the bottom is removed. But these look a little different in the picture... I would have to have it in my hands to figure it out for sure.

After reading my question over again I can see how it could be a little confusing. I do have a 12 pt socket, its just that the bolt is in there tight.

Decided to pull out all of the XREAS first before I started on the front coilovers and UCA. Let me say.. The Dremel works real well for this situation. Very little pieces.

12 point

About that 12pt. bolt, mine was tight but not torqued and its only long enough to hold the top spacer on. Wrap the spacer with something, in a vice or channel locks, and just back it out.

Sorry about that! I understand now...
Good luck with the install.
