Question: Z1 and speaker replacements without amp?

I have an 06 T4R without JBL and am getting a Z1 installed. I would like to get the stock speakers replaced at the same time but do not want to get a sub or amp (I dont want speaker components all over my truck). So a few questions.

1) Would replacing the speakers make a difference if Im not going to get an amp?

2) If so, what speakers would you recommend. Ive read through some posts about some speakers being more efficient and not requiring an amp?

You might notice a difference but I guarantee it will be VERY slight. The thing is, aftermarket speakers are definately better but require much more power to get going. Your head unit will probably provide around 20 or less RMS. Your looking at 50 wrms for your speakers at least.

Why dont you get a cheap 4 channel or 2 channel amp, put it under your seat, and use those to power your speakers. I guarantee you will not regret it.

If I put an amp under the seat and dont get a sub. . . .is there any reason to get a 4 channel amp or would a 2 channel serve the purpose?

Also, if you were going to do this - get new speakers for the doors and an amp (without a sub) - what setup would you recommend? I have read different posts about infinity speakers and then the higher end focal . . .. .. would anything be better or worse without a sub?

You dont really need a sub. I mean, it'll definately make it sound better. But its by no means required with the amp.

2 or 4 channel depends if you want to change just your fronty speakers, or both front and rear speakers. Get a 4 channel if your changing both your rear and fronts. Get a 2 channel if your changing just your fronts.

Theres lot of different set ups, Focal is very high end. Infinity is cheaper but pretty good also.

Find me a budget and ill get you a pretty good setup.

Id like to spend somewhere around 500 on the speakers and amp. . . . if thats possible.

I went with this two channel Phoenix Gold Xenon Amp and this CDT Component set . Plus another $40-$50 on amp kit and various connectors, etc.
This is well below your budget, but I'm happy with them. If you want better speakers, CDT also makes some higher end comps and speakers that can go in the rear doors.

I'm no audiophile, but I'm happy with my speakers/amps. thinking about changing out the head unit though....

Any other suggestions on best bang for your buck speaker/amp set up under 500?

Also, what are everyone's thoughts on replacing rear door speakers vs just replacing fronts? Replacing the back speakers worth the money? I planned on replacing front and back but have seen a quite a few comments on people just replacing the fronts.

Any name brand 4 channel x 50w/ch amp should do the trick for you for under $200. Maybe under $150. If you're not an audiophile, then here are some suggestions:
Soundstream, Alpine, Phoenix Gold. I believe you need an amp that will be approximately 9"x11"x2.5" MAX to fit under a 4R seat though.

If your limiting factor here is the time spent on the install (DIY?), then buy the 4 channel amp and only replace the front speakers at this time and see how it sounds. You can replace the back ones later on when you have time and you'll already have the 2 empty channels on that amp to use.

Speakers: I use Infinity Kappas and like them alot. Plus their customer service is top notch. You can get them for $90-$120/pr on ebay... the 06 models' 2 ohm impedance is a nice change. Search around from previous posts and you'll see alot of different brands mentioned that are probably comparable or better for that price. It's all opinion though.
