First off, thank you thank you thank you! The info I have gotten so far from this forum has been invaluable!
I installed a Scion T1808 into my 2007 4Runner. Still waiting for the iPod cable to arrive.
In the meantime, I'm addressing this problem- Of course the AUX jack doesn't work. I bought the proper 1k ohm resistor from Radio Shack. So far can't get it to work. Here are my questions, specific to my model year and H/U-
1. Am I using the proper resistor? Everything I read says use the 1k ohm 1/4 watt, but I read somewhere someone used a 2k.
2.Apparently it is supposed to be placed in the same space where the wire goes into the AUX/ Steering controls plug, at pin 19 (ground) and whichever pin is the AUX input sensor, either 15, 16 or 17. I stuck the ends of the resistor into these spaces where it appeared to be touching the metal pins that attach the wires to the plug. I tried all combinations, nothing worked.
3. Can the resistor be put anywhere inline, or does it have to be at the plug? When I know the proper setup, can I splice it into the wires somewhere else?
4. Can the resistor be installed either way, or does it have polarity?
Otherwise the stereo sounds a million times better than the stock one I had. I'm really happy, but I would love for it to be fully functional. I think I have read most of the info about this, but I'm out of ideas now.
