Quick 15-minute 5-speed W59 manual transmission fluid flush DIY

I had never changed manual transmission fluid before so below is a quick 15-minute manual transmission fluid change DIY, the results of which I post for critique so that I can learn how to do a better job next time.

There are a few oddities, like the fluid amount was different coming out than going in, and I'm not sure if the gunk amount was normal, etc.

Also I ask how to diagnose why the clutch pedal "feels weird" in that it
engages early in the pedal cycle and not slowly and evenly like I would think it should.

If you don't mind a comment, that old oil is the nastiest looking stuff. I'd do another drain and fill in a short while to try to get any remainder of that out of the transmission. Mine came out looking pretty clean and clear after 2 years use just for comparisons sake.

And on the 2.7 quarts. I think that is an approximate value and the procedure is to fill until it begins to run out of the hole, but the stated value tells you how much to buy.

Yea, but that MT90 is expensive. I would have used the cheap stuff for another drain & refill. I'm gonna use the cheap stuff on my 3rd member, then fill it with Redline for 30k.

Agreed. But trannys are expensive too. That drain plug is not magnetic, if it was that dirty, I'm betting the bottom of the transmission is too.

I'll admit I am super picky but I would have to do it again. To each his own.

I think my drain plug was magnetic.

That underside is ridic clean. Verbutani doesn't say where he is from, just US. He must be from the land of fairy tales.

Just did this. My drain plug is on the passenger side, not directly below like these photos. Also manual called for 2.2 not 2.7, at least for my 2000 sr5.

Congratulations on finding a way to do it without having to use one of those feeble embarrassing cheapo pumps in the oil bottle, like I do.
Condolences on having acquired an 8 foot length of tubing that smells really bad and now has no other conceivable use.

Did this yesterday and went off without a hitch. I had a large enough deep socket and was able to reach the fill plug without the 6" extension either.

This yes was a nice thread. Still, two times banned is something that takes quite a bit of work to accomplish.
