How did you like the 7" version? Do you have any side shots on the new one? I am leaning towards this 8" or 7" for more OEM look.

New 4Runner owner here. We just bought a one owner/low mileage 2007 V8 Limited with the factory JBL navigation. The factory radio/navigation system is annoying to use at best, so a new head unit is needed to keep my sanity. The JBL amps and speakers all sounded fine, so will be retained.
After visiting a few stores and reading a lot of reviews the Sony XAV-AX5000 head unit was chosen due to it's Android Auto capability, clean interface, and and ease of operation.
So I am deciding between the Pac RP4.2-TY11 and the Crux SWRTY-61J wiring adapters. The Crux is both smaller and cheaper, but some things I've read suggest front to rear fading is lost. The Crux instructions were unclear on this.
From the Crux instruction sheet: NOTE: Aftermarket radio rear speaker output leads are not used on both harnesses. Insulate with tape.
The above strongly suggests that the Crux does not support front to rear fading. It would be nice to hear from folks who actually installed the Crux.

Try Seicane, they MIGHT still have one in the 4Runner section of their site, but remember this size is also for the Corolla, 1st year Highlander, 1st gen Sequoia, etc. Joying seems to have a lot of customers, but I'm not a fan of NOT having volume/tune knob and buttons. The seicane unit apparently has Android 8.1 (latest version). Be sure to tell them if you have JBL or not.
This is the route I'll be taking as soon as I can. The unit itself is $350 or something like that.

if you go to the door sill, i think its the red with the yellow. check with meter to confirm.
I don't have the first-hand experience with the Crux you're looking for, but I do have experience with the PAC Radio Pro 4.2. It has worked flawlessly for me for over a year and does support the front to rear fading you're looking for. Yes, it is large and it is a tight squeeze behind the stereo. Yes, the instructions it comes with were written by the engineers who made it and are reasonably indecipherable. But it does work with the JBL system and sounds pretty clean, all things considered.
The JBL amp in my 05 Limited was not a regular amp per my research. It also caused a parasitic drain so that and dry rotted sub was the start of my JBL gut job. Best mod yet.

Thanks for the reply. I read too many folks here and on other forums had fading issues with the Crux wiring adapter, so I decided on th Pac RP4.2-TY11. Your endorsement helped too.
I did find that Amazon had an open box PAC adapter for a bit cheaper than new, so that should arrive tomorrow.

Metra 95-8202? Or some maybe better adapter?
So, without the necessary wiring adapter, I did a test fit on my Sony XAV-AX5000. It's fits very nicely while re-using the factory nav unit's brackets
But the top to bottom fit is so tight that a mounting kit like the well regarded Best Kits BKTOYK961 won't work. I need a kit with two filler plates to fill just the right and left panel gaps like the Metra 95-8202 does. There's no room for the top and bottom portions of a rectangular bezel.
So, there are a lot of posters in this thread that don't like the Metra 95-8202 kit. Is there a kit similar to the Metra but of higher quality?

I did a quick check and Crutchfield recommends the Metra 95-8202 for the Pioneer double DIN radios, not the 95-8210. That being said, your installation looks clean.
I think I may finish and debug the installation without the bezel/mounting kit because really using the factory brackets works so well. Once everything works to my liking I'll find a clean looking bezel and install that last.

I installed that unit in my daughter’s Camry, and she loves it. I opted for it based on the faster boot time, and at the time the AX100 wasn’t available anyway. I didn’t care that it had the front USB, but I was really bothered that they eliminated the rear one! I wanted the rear input for a remote plug in the console for a cleaner look. I still haven’t bought anything for my 4Runner yet because it came with a single DIN Pioneer that has Bluetooth, so it’s not really a priority other than having a screen for backup camera at some point. Based on the performance of the AX1000 though, it’s still on my short list, especially for the price. My real preference would be something with wireless CarPlay, but I’m not spending $600+ on a radio at this point, just to get a wireless version.

I’ve looked at crutchfield and all these steering wheel control adapter fit an 06 and up 4 runner... will they fit a 2003??? Getting the pioneer with car play

I also bought the PAC steering wheel adaptor, and the Axxess factory wiring interface, and a backup camera. Overall I'm quite happy with it, though the display could be a bit brighter in sunlight.

Which backup cam did you go with, and are you happy with it?
I went with this one Accele RVCLPMBS Universal license plate bar-style backup camera at Crutchfield Canada due to the easy mounting, I didn't want to faff about cutting new holes in the tailgate. It was difficult installing the wiring through the factory wiring pathways, but overall I'm very happy with it.
