Rats!

Went to move my truck this morning and immediately knew that something was wrong. It was running rough then it threw a check engine light. I don’t have a code scanner, so I felt a bit helpless. Then I saw what looked like a drop of yellow... NOOOO! It was rodent piss.

So, doing the math, I figured I had a chewed wire or two. Not what I wanted to deal with, but there was a chance that I could avoid a tow and $ at the dealership.

Found it under the manifold. Turns out that they only got two wires.

So, not as bad as it could have been, thank goodness!

Anyone have a rodent remedy?

That's crazy and glad you were able to fix it yourself. I just don't understand the thought process of putting parts on an offroad vehicle that are attractive to rodents??? WTH was Toyota thinking???:roll eyes:

I mean what if this happened out in the bush? Unbelievable.

I agree! Now, I’m paranoid!

My co workers girl is going through the he same thing right now. Except it's a brand new Tundra and squirrels are the culprits.

Hell I'm paranoid and it's never happened to me. I also park outside like you so it's probably just a matter of time since it's like a full blown buffet under the hood. Just ridiculous.

Funny. I was thinking the same thing about the buffet. I just added all that new crap. I think I just rang a dinner bell.

Try some mint scented spray made to deter rodents. Spray it throughout engine bay and the skid plate area. It might help.

Take some fabric softener sheets and tie them in a knot around something to keep them in place at the 4 corners of the engine compartment.

They will be back... I have been fighting these rodent now since october.

I placed rat baits under my covered tarp equipment .. rodents dead all over my property but there is a big problem because of all the oak acorns that fell last fall.. also an abandoned house was torn down 400 ft from my property ..

I keep placing the baits they eat them then more dead rodents check for bait loss every week .. I had them get into my cabin air filter no wires chewed but made a mess.. so I blocked off the both front fender inner holes 2 on each side so they cannot get in.. I will be installing rat wire when it warms up.. I did have to remove the wipers to get to the holes under the plastic air screen.. better check the air boxes both engine and AC.. I did put rat wire on the engine air box ..

That’s a good idea, thank you! I’ve had a few neighbors have issues, guess I didn’t learn from them. I’m going to Home Depot to drop some $ on some weaponry.

Honda Rodent Tape 4019-2317

Never tried it but Honda made a special rodent deterrent tape for wrapping wires.

Honda Rodent Tape 4019-2317

can be found on Amazon, ebay, etc. kind of pricy though but if it works way cheaper than replacing a bunch of wires/harnesses

^^ A great product

The product is great. It is too bad that Honda produced wiring harnesses in 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015 knowing that the plastic was soy-based and attractive to rodents. Yet they make and sell the tape that is rodent repellant. Thus they charge the customer for the repairs and then for the tape, knowing full well that their wiring harness has this defect.

Believe it or not, my secret weapon for getting rid of them for good is....

It's been discussed in many other threads as well. It's normally a material with soy in it.
