Rattles and creaks.... How much patience do you have?

Same here, except my driver side seems louder than the passenger side. It also seems to be worse the colder the interior is. I have tried to pinpoint this by looking everywhere from the dash to the outside lower windshield trim pieces, only to no avail.
I am really surprised by Toyota's plastic dash and am actually amazed it doesn't make more noise. Coming from owning German cars before (which produced no noises), the amount of plastic was quite a shock.
EXACTLY!!! Please give me a heads up if you find it. At first it was the leaves in the fall that got stuck in there, but now as its getting colder its getting more pronounced. I even thought it might be the speakers up on the dash, but thats not it either.

Over on the Jeep forum they are complaining about brand new engines burning oil, tranny and rear end failure, electrical meltdowns, and waterfalls coming in from their overhead console when it rains. I think Toyota quality is pretty darn good if the worst thing you can complain about are a few squeaks that can probably be fixed easily.

Windshield noises here, too. It might deserve its own thread. Gonna start that now.
Agree with Antman, though, too. Overall, this truck is the best car I've ever owned!

I didn't buy a Rolls Royce. I bought a highly capable off road vehicle. Creaks, ticks, etc are all part of the experience. Maybe its just me, but unless it is one of those annoying noises that I can hear over the radio playing, it really doesn't bother me. If I wanted a super quiet suv I would have bought a Lexus variant and complained about sounds it makes :lmao:

I am not saying my wrangler was perfect. It did have a few issues with water in some spots and so on. My point is that the wrangler was 18k and my 4runner was 35k. I would ththink at 35k sounds wouldn't be starting 6 months into ownership. Don't get me wrong we own 2 toyotas my wifes parents own 2 toyotas. All rotated we have owned 10+ toyotas...it seems that years back the toyotas were built a little better. I mean look at the 4th gen 4runners vs the 5th..rotors went back not forward...even consumer reports said that. All that said I like my runner just wished for more.

I just Fat Mat my drivers door trying to find/get rid of my ticking noise, It (FAILED).
Now I know it's in the Pillar with the Driver side seat belt mounts. I will be taking this a part this coming weekend (if I can find instructions or pictures).
It's my only Rattle/Ticking noise but it driving me up the wall.
I am using FatMat 25 Sq Ft FatMat 50 mill.

Just an update.
At this point I plan to FAT MAT all the doors and the floor. But the goal is to track down this rattle on the driver side.
So yesterday I completely "Fat Matted" my Center Pillar on the driver side. Which it turns out it pretty easy to take it apart, but it was not needed since the rattling wasn't coming from there.
On to the rear passenger doors.
At this point I plan to FAT MAT all the doors and the floor. But the goal is to track down this rattle on the driver side.

I might be flamed for this, but if rattles are really that big a deal, perhaps a GX or LX would've been the better vehicle to buy.
If something is super loud (say louder than a radio at a reasonable volume), then yeah it needs to be fixed. But otherwise, it's just the way it is.

My T4R is an absolute rattle trap. The rear gate squeaks constantly on even the slightest uneven surface. Sounds like the entire thing is just loosely attached and is swinging around independently of the rest of the vehicle. Also the front windshield squeaks like CRAZY but only at certain times. This one is much more annoying because its right in my face and when its bad it is BAD. My dealer has basically shrugged their shoulders about them. They've tried greasing the back gate many times with limited success.
Not sure what to do about it form here. IMO these noises are totally unacceptable, especially when neither my 2nd or 3rd gen were this bad, but I get very little help from my dealer. In all honesty I may look at selling my T4R in a few months if i cant get this resolved. I know its just 'squeaks' but it really adds a feeling of cheapness to my vehicle.
I've uploaded a video of my windshield squeak. Not the greatest quality because its shot with my iphone, you may need headphones or a decent set of speakers.

Well I recently had a squeak | vibration that only occurred while traveling on uneven surfaces and was driving me CRAZY to the point of almost selling my 4Runner.
the squeak rattle noise sounded as if it was coming from the top of the dash near the windshield, and almost sounded like the when you operate the wipers on a dry windshield for comparison purposes.
It turns out the the noise was from the "Crowl". This is the plastic tray that sits underneath the actual hood and rests on top of the windshield. The crowl is attached with plastic clips that actually need to be replaced, and i reinforced with some rubber foam to deaden any further vibration.
It did the trick... NO MORE SQUEAK | RATTLE | VIBRATION.
I hope this helps others to solve the mystery DASH rattle.

My RATTLE was quickly identified, my 4Runner is RATTLE FREE, PROBLEM FREE Too! I would say most are RATTLE FREE...

I have a rattle in the headliner right above my right shoulder. It happens only when the vehicle is cold, and sometimes it will happen when I shut my door. It would go away if I put the slightest pressure on the headliner with my hand.
The dealer verified the noise, and called today to say it has been fixed. There were few used T4Rs on the lot, so I went to see if they made the same rattle. Some did. Hopefully, mine has been fixed for good, but we shall see. I have to say that the dealer has done a good job trying to resolve the problem...
