Real Hi/Lo Beam LED bulb! AWESOME!

Did some central texas mudding past weekend, what fun slipping and sliding, found a pond 1-2 feet deep, went thru that with ease, didn't think twice about the oEdRos, they have no rubber shields, just naked and they survived, still working. I don't submarine my vehicles but they definetly got splashed check out the pics. :cowboy:

Mine are hanging in there as well. Been some rain here and I have checked them after going through some deeper puddles and pouring rain. They are holding up fine. I am enjoying them more every time I drive with them at night. They are good for lighting up the animals on these country roads...

Those are HID, not LED, and I got them used off local Craigslist for $40 last year. Seller had removed them from his Jeep when he traded it in; I had intended them to go on my then-project Bronco, which failed. (My 4R is ending up a recipient of a lot of stuff originally intended for that Bronco.) Current MSRP for the set of KC Hi-Lites Pro Sport 6” Spread Beam Pair Pack is $219 as they are clearing them out, was more like $300-400 when I got them. The matching Lexan covers from KC were $20 at Summit Racing.

Yep, the blue high-beam indicator doesn't turn on with these if you're using your high-beams.

Two options for getting the indicator back:

1. Add a load resistor in parallel with the low beam circuit to allow more current to pass

2. Re-wire the entire indicator bulb circuit to be in parallel with the high beam circuit.



On newer models with DRLs the indicator light will continue to function normally. (it's not powered in series with the headlight bulb, so high resistance LEDs don't affect it)

Thanks guy! Not sure if I'll fix it or not, it's really just a deer lease rig for the most part, hardly ever sees highway use, especially at night. So much easier to see with these off road than the halogens, I think its mostly the color of the light. Happy with them so far!

I have the transitional model, a 2000. It came with the afterthought DRLs, which I disabled (and capped the connectors in case I needed to use it later). I also have a working high beam indicator and can upload video proof later.

Sooo, when I was researching headlight options for my Fiesta ST last year, I came across a couple people saying that the heat generated from some of these higher performance LED headlights will destroy the finish on reflector housings (aside from the obvious issue that reflector housings don't work well with LEDs, and I'm aware this particular LED light addresses this). That information is hard for me to process because LEDs use less wattage than incandescent and halogen bulbs for equal light (and they already get super hot), but some of these LED bulbs have heatsinks and fans and stuff.

Short answer: No.

A halogen bulb will be 3 to 4 times hotter (surface temperature) than a LED.

The LEDs do not get very hot, with the emitter itself usually not exceeding 150 - 175 F. The heat sink and fans are there to pull as much heat away from the emitters (and drivers) as possible. The cooler they stay, the longer they last.

The filament of an incandescent bulb is very close to the actual color temperature of the bulb. So a 3000 K halogen bulb is very near 3000 degrees at the filament. The glass envelope may only be in the 500 degree range, but clearly a halogen bulb is much hotter than a LED.

After driving 60 miles, I feel no heat on glass lens. I can't imagine plastic would even feel this heat compared to halogens.

After 60 miles, I can hold my hand over the rear exposed portion of the LED module where the fan is, no need to pull away, it's just warm.

All this means it is very energy efficient and little is lost to heat like halogens.

It's just better and costs the same so why no? I've mudded with them, got all wet, zero issues. Had them a couple months, so far so good.

I could not agree more. These bulbs are not expensive and the light output is impressive. I have been through several pairs of the high-end halogen bulbs (Sylvania SilverStars) and the thought of forking out more money for the same old technology is no longer an option for me.

Are these bulbs the "end-all-be-all" of bulbs? Nope.....they are not. They are however, a good alternative to the high priced halogens out there and significantly cheaper than the HID mods I see. I am a happy camper with these things and if I only get two (2) years out of them, I still feel like a winner given the price I paid to purchase them.

For me, they are "the bomb". Bright, white light and the "promise" of a longer life. For me, that is more than enough. I am sure there are plenty of folks who will disagree and that is fine. For me, they are awesome. Simple as that.

Yeah I don't know what the hell those guys were talking about on the Fiesta ST forums and it had me confused since I've no experience with these newfangled LED headlight bulbs. There's no shortage of liars in the performance cars category so maybe I should use my noggin. I'll try these on my Runner and look for separate high and low beam LED bulbs that work in reflector housings now that I know they exist.

UPDATE: Still running these LED Bulbs and absolutely ZERO problems.

He claims much higher light output, better cutoff, and the high beam indicator works. All for 30 bucks.

Leon, the output on those is quite a bit higher as measured by that app and the hi beam indicator does indeed work.

The notable improvement in the cutoff I noticed was with the current bulb I have installed, the Hikaris, and those I got for $72.

My apologies for the confusion. I wish I could comment more on how the Aukee LEDs compare to the bulbs in this thread (OEDRO), with respect to having a distinct cut-off. I just don't recall...
