rear speakers 91

Has any one built a speaker box to use the factory mounting for a 6 x 9. I Dremeled the existing box to use a 5 1/4 but not enough oomph! . The internal amp for the stock box -I believe - is the limiting factor in sound quality . I imagine just mounting up the speakers without an enclosure isn't the answer either. Nor would be mounting the speakers to the panel opening. Any thoughts on this problem?

I too have been wondering. I also have a factory sterio with speakers and have been wanting to spice up thesound system in my 91. They say there is 4 in the front and 5 1/4 in the rear but I think I wanna get some bigger stuffs in there?

I've looked at mine, and also been like hmmm, I think the best option is to just add a pair of 6x9's in back and two 10" subs, running 2 diff amps off of a line out converter

Where is the placement of the 6 x 9's? I was thinking of putting them in the stock location. Would you just dynamat the rear quarter panel and attach them to the existing mounting holes? I contend that a custom box for the 6 x 9's in the stock location would be a solution, but has this been done with success? Is there enough depth? Would the panel need to be altered to accept the larger speaker hole?

that's the real problem . i tossed the stock deck and removed the two small amp's in the rear speaker box's and installed a set of polk DB501's in the stock box's . got infinity kapa's up front sound's great . i could still use a small sub 8"

remove the amps seal the boxes run some good 5 1/4 with a 200 watt amp some good 4 inch up front 12 inch sub with 1200 watt amp sounds pretty damn good !!!! thats without getting really crazy :guitar2:

In my '95, I have Polk db series 6x9s in the back.
I brought it to a local shop after taking out the boxes completely and letting the wire harness hang down.
They cut holes custom fit directly into the back panels.
You can see the 6x9s looking in and they do not get in the way.
They don't rattle in my truck, but if they did I'm sure you could roll some dynamat on there.
I was genuinely surprised and happy about the sound quality of using the back panel as a box.
(The back panels are quite crowded behind them in the 2nd gen. It seems like the 1st gen is a little less crowded with metal and other sorts of things.)

So I'm collecting my parts for my 1990 4runner system. I have an alpine KTP-445 4ch for the speakers, going to probably use an alpine CDA-105 for ease of intergration with the 4ch, and a kenwood 9105d for my 10". I have some polk audio 4" speakers to drop in the front then I'm looking to do some polk audio or alpine 5.25s in the rear. What all is involved to bypass the rear speaker amps? There must be some kind of signal wire running to them for the amp, I could just remove the amp then hook the signal wires up to the new speakers, correct? Then hook up the outputs for the 4 channel up behind my dash. In case no one knew, the ktp-445 uses the power from the wiring harness for the factory radio, on the box it says its fine to hook it up that way if the factory radio has a 15 amp circuit. I just checked and my 1990 has a 7.5 amp fuse, but I haven't had the dash apart yet to check the gauge of the power wires. Does anyone know what size they are? If it's at least 18 gauge then I was just going to put a 15 amp fuse in the fuse box.
