Rear window not working but everything else work

Could anybody help me with this problem. I'm living in a remote area and the nearest dealership is 300 miles away.

My rear windows won't work anymore. Here's the steps I took after looking into other threads :

- Checked for a blowed fuse and replaced the fuse (don't work)
- Checked the switch connector in the middle console (seems ok)
- Deicer work
- Rear wiper work and is fully retracted
- Rear interior lights work
- my custom installed rear camera work (installed 1 year ago)

I'm thinking that you are talking about the rear hatch window, right?

Does the rear wiper work?
Run it and turn it off mid sweep. This should reset the wiper. As you probably know, the window won't open if the wiper is on or not fully reset.

Yeah I mean the rear hatch window.

Nope. All other window roll down perfectly.

I removed the back cover of the hatch window. Everything seems ok.

Did anybody know if I could check if the signal is passing with a voltmeter if I've got access to the harness behind the hatch window cover? I do I risk shorting something?

The rear hatch window will not work if the rear door is not at least "slightly" latched.

I just did an experiment. I opened, then lowered the rear hatch ever so slowly. Allowing the rear latch to "rest" against the latch hook found on the floor deck. No matter how softly I tried, the door always at least partially latched in that it could not be opened, but it could still be moved about 1/2 to 3/4 or an inch or so up or down. Obviously, the hatch was not completely locked and closed. On the dash with the engine running, however, no "open door" indicator light appeared and the rear window worked perfectly up and down.

I then did the same thing, only I placed a small piece of plastic in the way, which would not allow the door to latch at all. Nothing worked. The open door indicator was on at the dash.

It seems obvious that there is a switch at the door latch which sends a signal to the ecu if the door is not at least slightly closed. That may be where your problem lies, in that switch. That switch will be the first locking mechanism that initiates when the door is being closed against the latch. The second mechanism is the door locking latch, much thicker and "beefier".

I would first try the "Fonzie" fix, open then close the door fairly hard and see if that does not shake up and wake up that switch. (Or break it) If that does not work, and you said you have already removed the rear hatch interior panel, do so again and see if you can find that switch towards the door latch and maybe you can see if something is not working right. Loose wire at the latch? Just a thought. Be safe.

I was looking through other threads and although you are only experiencing a problem with the rear window, I would probably not rule out a wiring problem or motor/regulator problem... This of course would probably be last resort since you said dealer is almost a days drive away... :wow:

Take a look at some of these... SimonJ says there is a TSB for short wires which might be a problem with yours? I'm not sure if one wire controls a specific function or if one wire controls all the rear door functions.

These aren't 100% like the problem your experiencing, but it might point you towards the right direction.. Good luck!

Have you popped the center console recently? There is a connector in there that connects to the switch. I inadvertently unplugged the inverter while working in there one day and forgot to plug it back in.

Just a suggestion.
