Remote Start on 12 4R

I had the dealer install a remote start on my 12 4Runner before I picked it up. The way it is set up, pushing the unlock button turns the car off if remotely started. So when I go out to get in it after starting it, it shuts off. Even if I put the key in the door to manually unlock it, it will shut off.

Does anybody know if there is a way around this? It seems kind of dumb for it to turn off only to get in it and restart it. More work for the starter over time....

An aftermarket remote starter might work the way you want, but unfortunately Toyota would rather see your vehicle not get stolen rather than provide you with a convenience.
 
The factory Toyota remote started does turn the vheicle off upon entry. They are all that way and I am not sure if you can change that feature.

I have a Viper on mine and I can unlock my doors without the engine shuting down, I insert the key and go. However, they all have a pressure sensitive brake switch that will shut the engine down if the brake is depressed before the key is in the "run" position. I can also press the starter button, turn my key off and lock my doors when I run into a store or wherever to keep my heat/ac on, but again, by depressing the brake pedal it will shut down without the key in the ignition and turned on.
 
I have that exact same set up on my 99 4R. A Viper remote start/alarm that stays started until a certain time, it is shut off with the key fob, or the brake pedal is pushed. I was just hoping the one installed by Toyota would do something similar. Oh well.....
 
I think they're all quirky in one way or another. Mine won't unlock with the factory key fob after it has been started remotely, and the alarm sounds if I remote start without unlocking it. Fortunately, it automatically locks a couple seconds after the remote start kicks in.
 
When I picked up my 4R, the salesman showed me a single button key fob that was to be the starter. I asked for it to be programmed into the key (regular, not smart) instead because I was fed up with my previous fob (huge prestige with display). Range is great, but buttons are disabled when engine is running. This is because the key has power for either the anti theft chip (when running) or buttons (when not running), but not both at the same time. One turn clockwise in the door unlocks TE driver side, a double clockwise turn unlocks all the doors.
 
Was curious what everyone was doing for remote starts on these trucks. It sems like RS have gotten so complicated with the newer vehicles. I have a 97 4Runner that I installed a RS on and only has one fob and till this day still works great.
I went to the Toyota dealer just to ask about one for my 2011 SR5 with a key start and they told me for $350 I would have to have a second fob and for $600+ I could have just one key fob.
I don't think I'll be installing one on my 2011 4Runner anytime soon I guess?
