So a little confused as I'm not from the 5th gen world. But my short mother in law is looking at these trucks and the sliding tray makes perfect sense for her. The only problem is we are having trouble finding a truck with that option. Am I understanding correctly that if she purchases a 2 row model we could just buy a tray and install it?

You would need the tray, carpet, rail system, cargo hooks, front storage piece, mounting hardware, and to drill into the floor pan to expose the two rear mounting threads for mounting.
I didn't. It would have to be cut to make it fit.
Yes it's a really easy swap. The hardest part is having the patience to wait to find one. But as mentioned above you have to swap more than just the tray. The whole rear floor is different. Again very easy though, I just did it a few weeks ago.
Alternatively you can get the aftermarket universal cargo slide (check the group buy on here for details).

Bump/update - some new info that may help someone.
Just removed the sliding tray on my '15 TE. I like the convenience of the slider, but I need the extra height.
1. There is no under floor sensor on mine. The clip for it is there, but no sensor. I do have keyless entry, and two presses on the keyfob releases the rear latch, so maybe they moved that sensor?
2. There is a steel floor support under the carpet, and this measures 3 1/4" below the top of the sliding tray. So, if I add a 1/2" plywood floor and a bit of carpet or rubber mat, I have actually only gained 2 5/8" of extra height.
3. I put the sliding tray back in for now. Not sure it is worth the loss of convenience, and loss of a level cargo floor, for just 2 5/8".
4. It does make some sense to replace the sliding tray with a shallow box for storage of recovery gear, etc., and to get back a level cargo floor, but then I would not gain the extra height I was after in the first place.
For those on a diet, the other consideration is that the sliding tray track framework is quite heavy, so by removing it you make way for some chain and shackles!

Yes, I was surprised by how heavy the mechanism was, it is definitely solid for holding weight!
I measured it at around 35 pounds, which was good news for me. I replaced it with a set of shallow drawers which ended up being about 55 pounds. But removing the slider meant only a rather small increase in weight overall.
I've gone down the path of building my own box/flat load floor. The reality is if you want a flat load floor you are going to give up some height. My platform is a compromise in that it tapers down in the rear at the same slight angle as the rear seats when folded. So the load floor is flat and flush but there isn't as big of a lip in the rear. I well laid in some logistic track for adjustable tie downs.

THat or just buy a take off from one of the guys who thinks that it will give them appreciable space benefit and dismount it altogether.

Just a quick thread bump for a tray becoming available. I'm removing the entire rear floor and sliding cargo tray assembly on my 2010 TE next week. It will be available for sale if someone becomes interested. I'm located near Dallas, Texas.

I just got a 2016 sr5 and it came with the sliding deck, I am thinking about taking it off after seeing this thread .
Maybe doing a swap with someone that wants one ....
Off course it should be a local trade as I am sure it must be a pain to Ship!
