Since you are saving for Duratracs and considering top of a line Garmin unit I may recommend you a Nuvi 1690 model which was top of a line when it released and it is on a close out right now due to a new model coming in.

I picked it up from Amazon for $100 about a month ago and love it! Here's what I like about it: looks slick, has a Google search!!!, traffic is transmitted over EDGE network (I believe it's AT&T). Traffic feature saved me approx. 20 minutes idling in traffic on I-77 around Ford Chiswell, VA when I was coming back home from a vacation.

What is not so great about a 1690 unit: subscription will expire in 2 years (but renewal is cheap anyway), no free life time maps upgrade.
 
Sorry about your accident, glad you are ok.

Nobody else here has mentioned it, so I'm going to. 99% of people have an Iphone or Android phone. So, why not use the GPS apps available? Portable, up-to-date/updateable, cheap (compared to an in-vehicle unit), it keeps the truck in stock form, and you can pocket the money you saved on an in-vehicle unit.

Im a 4th Genner, so my apologies if my idea is not appropriate for the 5th Gen guys :bluejump:

Just curious...did those airbags hurt when depolyed? Or do you not remember?

Thanks for clearing that up, for a number of reasons. So in fact she did not 'run a yellow' (can't do such a thing anyway), she failed to yield. One of the main reasons people want to know 'what happened' (well for me at least) is so we can judge how well the 4R held up in 'that kind of accident'. If you were in the left lane and she was in the left turn lane, how big was that divider/median? Most intersections that I know that are left turn yield on green are not that big (can't really get enough speed up to do damage in a t-bone situation). Curious at what speed you est. that she hit you at? She did a fair amount of damage without a question! You say you hit your brakes and swerved, how fast do you think you were going when she hit you? Based on your OP you had to be moving a bit to slide as far as you did and jump 2 medians. Glad your ok, but do want a little more info if you don't mind!
 
Glad you are well and the 4R did a good job at keeping you safe.

Now just my thoughts, If I came here and asked for input about tires for my insurance replacement 4r because an elephant had sat on it, we would all be interested and want to know the details of the accident. You can't just make a statement that is so incongruous like "failed to yield on a yellow" without expecting anybody to question it.

Now maybe we can all move on with our lives.
 
After reading this thread three things come to mind:
1. If you post something, get it right. If you don't, there are members that will pick it apart over errors and you will be taken to task. That said:
2. Some members ought to have a little compassion. Most people do not see posts with the clinical detachment of a forensics clinician. Think before you post and word post with proper context.
3. A message board is just like an accident scene. Everyone wants to rubberneck and get as much detail and gore as possible. If you don't want that, don't post the details.

I responded to the OP's original post right after he started this thread. I had questions about his story but did not ask or care because he only wanted help with nav recommendations.
