Replacing bulbs in radio/dash/AC controls (PICS INCLUDED)

Ok guys this is somewhat a long story so please bare with me. A bulb went out several months ago in the ac control area (right where the time clock displays) and the dealership wanted $350 to replace it! So i looked on this form to see what i could do and i found out how to remove all the consoles in the front from this: How to Remove the Navigation Head Unit from a 2003 Toyota 4Runner

When i got behind the unit, i found a couple different size bulbs. The one that went out is pictured below in Image#2 (its the clock bulb) I went to radio shack and accidentally picked up the bulbs in Image #3 (AC control "Knob" bulbs).

I can't find the bulb to replace the bulb for the clock in Image #2. Anyone know where to get this? I really need to fix this first!

Image #1 just shows you the front and back of the AC control panel and where the bulbs are located. I circled the clock area on the front where the light is out.

I was also wondering about replacing all the bulbs in the radio, dashboard, AC controls, and anywhere else that has that orange glowing light to white lights or leds, but i dont know how to do this. So if anyone knows where these bulbs are or how to change the colors to white please let me know how!

Go to your local dealership, show them what bulb is out and they should charge you around $2. :cheers:

Ah yes the dealership! I could get the bulbs from there! Thanks i almost forgot and i went to 2 different radio shacks looking for them lol. You dont happen to know how to change the color from orange to white do you? Would that be a different bulb or is there an orange film i need to take out? i just couldn't figure it out when i had it all opened up!

Radioshacks don't have the bulbs, only Toyota dealerships do! Good luck!

I just finished doing this exact same thing for two of controls and they look identical.

I took his advice and bought 14v 40MA ones and it took me less than 10 minutes to do.

I bought 3 of the Lamps for $1 + $7 S&H.

Click on the "Fullsize Image" button to see better. The table with the A, B, C, D, E gives you the exact part #'s. Make sure to use the right "BEHIND" image for your model.

EDIT: Just got back from the Toyota 'Stealership' and purchased all the bulbs for the SR5 version, which is the version that my wifes 4Runner is. Get this, the price for each bulb: $4.97! Yea, I could have ordered them for a cheaper price online but didn't want to wait, I
wanted to get this taken care of as soon as possible.

I joined this forum just to say thanks to you for your post. I went to the dealership with your information in hand. It was nice to be able to confirm the bulbs because they got them wrong twice before we got it squared away.

Now my lights all work again. I paid $3.68 per bulb - If I had lots of time I might have tried a LED upgrade, but these bulbs lasted for 10 years so I'm probably OK without the LEDs.

Guys.. Odd request here. Wife's bulb behind the clock was out and I replaced it. Now she's telling me the "heat" bulb is out. I went out to the 4r and all the fan settings light up, but the word "heat" does not. Looks like there's only one bulb behind the whole thing and somehow when you press the button, it lights the one you select.

Anyone have more info on how it lights up the one that is selected or if Heat is even supposed to light up.

Seeing the thread reminded me of the other bulb I picked up.

Ok.. ran downstairs and dropped in the light. Figured if I didn't unhook the connector it wouldn't reset the clock. Must have bumped the reset button or some crap. Oh well.. all the lights are working.

Hello my name is Josh and I am reaching out to anyone out there that can help me out! My problem is I just put a aftermarket stereo in my car(Kenwood) and now the lights behind the LED's do not work at all! I see that there are (Three) plug ins coming out of the vehicle but only (Two) going into the new deck. I am thinking that the last plug in has to control the lights to info system on the dash. Do i just ground the wire coming out of the vehicle or something else? Please any help is greatly appreciated, thanks!
