Reverse Lights

I did the same Tail as Turn from Diode Dynamics and did the dual reverse bulbs. Super bright!! I had the same setup on my last car too. Sorry not the best picture!!.

Looks like i may have to do the Diode Dynamics upgrade. I really don't want to keep trying different LED's to find that ultimately the reverse light output wont get any better through that sliver of a reverse light housing.

Though i was thinking of putting ditch lights up top on the back for multiple purposes.

It was a super easy install. I spent for diode dynamics most powerful bulbs available for the swap. So... you switch to a better bulb in the factory location and then add another even bigger bulb to the factory blinker location. My windows are tinted dark and I was having to roll windows down to back into my driveway in the dark. This mod plus adding the $9 sensor to automatically dim dash lights so I wasnt “nightblinded” to begin with solved the issue.

Half the problem is the cheap 4runner camera! I wished they made a decent replacement with night vision!

yep this is a big part of it for sure!

I put JDM Astar LED's in and they have been great for me. I have a 12 so i cant do the tail as turn otherwise I would have done that.

Where did you route the wiring to the driver's side switches?

Went up through the rear drivers corner in the fender behind the mud flap. you'll see 2 rubber grommets. The one further to the outside is doable but gonna have a hard time fishing the wire to the tail light. The other black grommet is a clear shot into the inside - poked a small hole in it and fished the wire through(best to remove carpet and drivers side interior trim. Watch videos on that as the clips and fasteners are a pain until you know exactly where they are!
From there is a clear shot under the door thresholds then up into the dash

A couple of options for replacing the stock backup light bulbs:

I installed these 921 LEDs from VLEDS.

HIGH OUTPUT WHITE 6 LED 921 - 921 - Shop Bulb Number
At 850 lumens they are a lot brighter than stock. Buy they sure are expensive.

Later I bought some 921s from LASFIT for my Subaru.

921 912 White LED Bulbs CANBUS Error Free For Reverse Back Up Light - Lasfit Auto Lighting
A lot less expensive and incredibly bright at 1500 lumens.
I’m gonna order a set for the 4Runner to replace the VLEDS.
One thing to note is that these bulbs are so bright and they can get hot so they should only be used for a few minutes.

Stock incandescent 921 bulb is about 264 lumens.
VLEDS 921 @ 850 lumens. So 4x?

Here’s a good resource:

The VLEDS website actually lists a warning to operate them no more than 10 minutes.
You may just want to go for the LASFITs instead of VLEDS. You have a 45 day money back guarantee period to try them out.
