Rigid SR 40" LED bar

Has anyone jumped on one of these yet? I found them for $899 shipped on ebay, just waiting to see how close Ducmonsta can get to it to give the business to one of our own. Better priced than the Baja Designs light bar, and a lot more reviews on the Rigids.

I have been looking as well. I usually do not drive off road at night, but was forced to drive 50 miles or so offroad at night a few weeks ago. I thought the stock lights sucked before, but they are horrible when there is zero light pollution, street lights or street signs to reflect off of in the distance.

What I really want to see is a comparison between a full LED bar (40''+) and 4 Hella lights.

I am trying to figure out if LED is really worth the money right now.

I guess I should have been more clear. I am looking for a caparison of an LED light bar 40''+ compared to 4 Hella lights in actual driving conditions or a road, not up against the side of a mobile home.

Chances of finding that exact comparison is pretty slim. However, YouTube has plenty of live road comparisons of Rigid vs low beam and high beam. You can probably also find some for Hellas

All of the big 3 ,Vision X ,Rigid and Baja Designs make excellent LED light bars and seeing their single row 40's side by side a unbiased person couldn't tell them apart.Pretty sure they are all using the latest technology CREE XP-G LEDS.They are all super freakin bright and turn night into day!

I went with the 40" Baja Designs mainly because of it's 3 stage microprocessor. I don't know if Vision X or Rigid have that option now or not but they didn't at the time. The half dimming option is great when your on tight trails in the woods as the whole 14,000 lumens, while great out in the open,reflects back and blinds you when in tight and is too bright.

I do have some Vision X Tantrum rock lights that I just installed last night. At least the microprocessor and 4 of the 8 lights on the corners so far as they are a pain to wire.

I wear my sunglasses at night!imp:

HIDs will give you a longer beam than LED bars. There is a lot of discussion on desert racing websites. It seems like LEDs are still too new and you are paying a lot of money for them because of it, IMO. Just like other techy stuff, price will drop and technology will increase exponentially with time. Also, when you read people's opinion, you have to be careful of who is sponsoring them. LEDs are the new thing and companies are paying racers to use their product, or giving free product, as part of their marketing.

HID vs. LED

Baja Designs is top shelf equipment, you will not have to worry about what they produce. I have had great customer service from them as well. Although, my experience is from their enduro dirt bike conversion kits from 14 years ago, still kicking. They know their stuff, and it is mostly engineered and built in the USA, although I am sure some of the components are from overseas. I have no experience with Rigid.

What is interesting is that on the mid and longer LED bars, you can order them with different optics on different portions of the bar. You can go with spot in the middle and flood on the ends. One other cool thing on the Baja Designs bars, is their electronics can run the light at 50% ouput and also a flashing mode.

BD makes some great big bucks HID racing lights also that will out shine in distance any LED light and get way more lumens per dollar. The problem is the good big HID lights are HUGE....!!

I have 4 Hella FF75's on my GOBI. I can tell you they aren't as bright as the stock high beams. I was just having the same conversation with Phillyd2 who has the PIAA's, just like GOBI shows on their site.

They do throw a wide beam that lights up around the truck nicely, but not impressively bright for 4(!) lights.

I was looking at 7'' or 9'' HIDs, but after reading the links above, it looks like I am chasing down a false dichotomy.

It seems like they both have their pros and cons. I would like to have the far reach for long dirt roads, but don't want to get blinded when the trail gets narrow.

Perhaps I will do two spots (pencil beam) aimed for distance in the middle and two "euro beams" on the sides aimed a little more modestly. Maybe Just go for Halogen all the way around to avoid the blinding issue.

I do like the Baja Design LEDs for all of the points made above.

I would like to have this done by the time I go out again, but I have been so busy lately, and a tradeshow two days this week. ahhh!

Maybe I should do less beer drinking and messing around in the evening time so I don't have to drive back to basecamp late at night. LOL :bash:

For me I am thinking of going with HIDs on the front bumper, probably in a driving beam and nothing to big. Then the roof will probably get a LED bar, thinking the Vision X EVO Prime double stack. That way get best of both worlds.

Nop.. that wasn't me. You may want to do a search via Google.

there is a micro processor that controls the different segments of the light bar. you can order it with white/orange LED's and program the micro processor as desired. that's about the short of it.

I just received my Rigid lights from Ducmonsta for my Gobi. His prices were right on with excellent service but even if he's a few bucks more lets keep supporting one of our own.

The current deal I have going with Rigid for the forum members is a free set of Duallys in flood, spot, or diffused pattern if you purchase a 40" or larger at retail cost.

In this case it would be $999 shipped to the lower 48. Most guys have been using the duallys for back up or side lamps. I understand that there are some of us that do not want or need back up lamps. So, I can entertain other deals out there.

The gentlemen that are selling the 40"SR on ebay for $899 shipped will only be able to do so for a limited time. Rigid is very "rigid" about their map pricing. I noticed that particular seller on ebay only has 14 feedback comments. I would like to think my reputation on this forum is a bit stronger.

Rigid lights, I have been told, are on a 5-6 week backorder. So, unless the guys selling them online have them in stock, you will not see them for that long. There are a few exceptions with some items that may be in stock at Rigid. I am direct with them. They will be dropped shipped from Rigid themselves. And as (enzo, adio3x, phillyd2, iflyusg and several others) can attest, they come very well packaged and damage free.

I've got four Rigid 6" SR bars on my rack - the two in the middle are spot beams, and the two outsides are combo beams and angled out board around 15 degrees.

In the grill I have two 6.7" 55 watt Vision X "euro beam" HID's. These with the 35Watt Philips bulbs in my low beams, the HIR bulbs in my hi beams and the 55watt HID's in my fogs, it turns night into day.

On the trail where there is alot of dust I prefer running my hi / low beams and the Vision X HID's, the HID light seems to "cut" through the dust and fog much much much better than the LED's. The LEDs are great for trails that arn't too dusty and they do much better at area illumination. Those two 6.7" HID's absolutely kick ass, they have great throw, great spill, and a great beam temp. Pretty much useable in most all conditions except heavy fog.


I like my LED's but I LOOOOOVE my HIDS. The LED technology still has a ways to go. I wish they would drop the color temp of the LEDS down to 4300k instead of running this 5000k temp stuff. 4300k is a much better light color temp for general use, 5000k seems to reflect much more and which it has that cool "pure white" look, its isnt as effective as 4300k.
